commodore v6 into early hilux

Post by flyinwall »

I have an 82 hilux and i am thinking of putting a commodore v6 into it.
Has anyone on here done it? if so what has to be modified and how much will an adapter cost to bolt to the t/case?
Or does anyone here have an adapter laying around that they dont want?

hey fly i have done it, first one i brought with motor swap already done (i don't advise that) it did work out a little cheaper because it was already engineered and running but what a headf*#k that turned out to be i just brought some one else's problem. well any way second one i brought had the conversion already done but no running gear,(motor, boxes, tailshaft's) worked out well for me because i could do it all myself, picked up an ecotec 6 with computer and wiring harness and 60,000 k's for $500, had the computer and harness changed to suit manual gearbox and wire into hilux loom for about the same price and a speed sensor for around $300. Heavy duty gearbox from marks was pretty dear(bit over 2gs)and adapter kit i think was around $500 plus clutch and tailshafts, other bits and pieces i already had. So if your going to do it properly it's not cheap.
Cheers Brad

ok i have been searching around on other forums (via google) and i have found that a toyota 3rz-fe would be a good conversion now my question is has anyone here done it or seen it done and what is involved in transplanting it in to my 82 model lux? It has the ever onderpowered 18r in it now but i would need more power for what i want to do

i found out a way of putting the commo v6 into it with factory parts all i need is a bell housing from a 2004 v6 jackaroo/rodeo with an aisin warner auto and it will bolt to a toyota auto and the commo v6 so that means no $1000 kit from marks or dellows just a bellhousing from the wreckers so if anyone is wrecking a 2004 v6 isuzu auto let me know as i want the bellhousing
