Make sure you undo the nut inside the tailshaft and then unbolt the whole bearing assembly and put the new one on.zero wrote:doing mine at the moment. how do i get the center bearing off?

a good fix for hilux centre bearing is when they are new or
still in good nick remove from car, locate the holes in the rubber tube
that surrounds the bearing mount, inject it with sikaflex and leave to cure for 2-3 days [thats why i use a new one before you have to fit it]
and it will only fail when the actual bearing fails no more flogging out the rubber which is the most common problem

cheers granborismo, ill see how my ebay one goes then
i made up a bit of flat bar and drilled holes and bolted it to my flange, then held it and undone the flange nut, worked a treat.
it then took a bit of playing around to get the flange off, just slowly with a hammer

ok
well i have just put in my new centre bearing, but it hasnt fixed my problem/what i wanted to fix.
The old one was starting to tear the rubber a bit and when i reverse and get off the clutch it makes this terrible screeching noise and sometimes when i am slowing down.I thought this was the problem as it had a fair bit of loose up/down play at the bearing too.
i just fitted my new one, reversed out driveway still making same sound, any ideas thanks on whatelse it could be

A common reason that the center bearing fails, is due to worn uni joints.
If your doing a center bearing, do the uni's too.
Only an extra 70 bucks for the 3 if that, and you know then that any possible issue the uni's caused will no longer be there to ruin your new center bearing.
Love the sikaflex idea, will use that from now on too

if you hunt around, you can find 1 piece shafts from the hilux SINGLE cab, TRAY top utes of around the 2000 vintage, with the 3.0L NA diesel engine.
I found two in the wreckers, but one had been forked when moving the wreck, paid $330 for a 90,000km old shaft.
this is after i chewed out a YumCha centre bearing, then replaced the whole mess with Hardy Spicer Uni's and centres, and chewed out the centre in about 2000kms!
