Turbo 1hz or fit 13BT

Post by thewayitis »

I have a HZJ75, and it doesnt quite have enough power. I'm considering 2 options,
1. 1hz has 290,000 new fuel pump and injectors in the last 20,000km. Now i would turbo it and intercool it.
2. Freshen up the 13BT I have and put it in the 75.

I'm not worried about wiring because it will pretty much be the same (I wont need the glow system). Theres no worries about mating the 13BT to a gearbox because I have a gearbox and transfer case. The 13BT made 74rwkw on 37s with 4.1 ratios at 13psi boost last time I was on the dyno.

Has anyone done this before? What are peoples opinions?

I personally would forget the 13BT conversion. I would turbo the 1HZ, keeping the boost reasonably low.

if you going to go to all the effort in putting a computerized engine in like the 1hdt, for the same price or cheaper u could go the inj350 or 6L...

Go the 1HZ, a good turbo setup doesn't cost the world

1HDT isn't computerised, niether is the 1HDFT multivalve

The 1hdfte is the computerised engine (it's all in the letters 'e' for electronic injection).

A few points I do wanna bring up though....
1HZ has a timing belt, and indirect injection (yukky glow plugs)
13BT has gears and direct injection and piston skirt cooling..
13BT dont mind hot EGTs. I wouldnt ever bother to put in a petrol engine in a 4wd.

i would go with sell both and get a 1hdt.

i have a 1hz turbo and i can't keep it cool under heavy loads.
even though the 1hz goes harder than my standard 1hdfte i still love driving in ANY condition, loaded, on sand, whatever you can throw at it and not see the temp guage move at all.

factory turbo deisels rock!!
