My idea is to sell votes cheaper than buying the magazines to competitors only!

The public is a different story, i only deal with competitors or a competitors representive.

you just said clubs, isnt that public??
so if you are only aiming at competitors then it is back to buying into the event which in turn makes the already steep entry fee even more are everyone needs to buy votes to get in.

you should not be able to sell votes to competitors as it turns everything to shiat. the voting system is for the PUBLIC to get the mags and vote for who they like, yes competitors will will go and buy some mags but they are not able to buy large amounts as they can when you do this..

there has to be another way to raise money without manipulating the voting process

Evan
As mentioned in earlier posts,

This has been going on since the start of Tuff Truck - ask any of the veteran competitors, they will tell you that they have, and would again buy as many mags/votes needed to get as high up the running order as possible.

As mentioned previously, the only way to have the voting process done exclusively by the public is to sell entry passes online like the ticketing systems used by virgin & jetstar etc 1 ticket = 1 vote

A large magority of the public turn up and pay at the gates!

This is not my system, i only utilize what have to work with!

You Don't have to be part of it! rely on the public votes!

I will say it again - IT'S ABOUT THE KIDS!

So untill the Tuff Truck officials changes the voting system, i will keep making lots of money for these sick kids.

ALL THE BEST

:D :D :D

I do some fund raising for Angel Flight Australia.

Mark congrats for using the rules to help a great cause. So until the rules change keep earning those hard dollars for the kids or whoever else.

To me I cannot see the difference you doing this or a competitor going out and buying a heap of mags.

Your way earns a heap of money for a good cause.

But I do agree with you, regards buy a ticket and get 1 vote.

Please note that I have only been to one Tuff Truck as a guest and it was fun.

Cheers

Hi Mark, thanks for that, I only own & run the events. The competitors and crowd with a big help from 4WDTV make those dvd's what they are:- Good.

Simon & Miranda from 4WDTV really know how to make a DVD or show work.

Mate please come along to one of my events when I am or you are in the right area.

All the best for your future fundraising.

All the best to competitors, crew and organisers at the upcoming Tuff Truck.

Mark, on a constructive note, have you asked the organisers about the liability etc of raffling off a lap or multiple laps in the trucks on say the mud event?
something where nobody will die but the winner would have a ball?

if you sold 1000 tickets at $2 or $3 a go it would help spin some $$ and i think most of the guys would be sweet with that or prefer it as a fundraising option?

I dont see what all the drama is about! Anyone can go out and buy hundreds of copies of the mag and vote themselves in at least this way the sick kids get the money.
If anything it is the voteing system that needs to be changed.

I don't think that Mark should be burned at the stake for helping a good cause!

Got to agree with CV smasher. Its helping out the kids. Yes the way its down could be better but the way the voting system is means this is the way its done.
Whats stopping someone with a connection to one of the mags "borrowing" a pallet of mags and sending them in :?: no one would get the money ;)

This is not directed at anyone in particular, but I'm also not sure I get what the drama is about?

A few have said it is "buying your way in", but seriously, how many people do you know will buy the mag and vote, if they don't know anyone/have friends that are competing. Seriously? It's not really the public voting their favourite truck in, it's mates voting mates in, we all know this, it isn't rocket science. And yes, I guess at the end of the day it does become about who has the most money. Which team has the most amount of friends willing to spend the most amount of $$$ to get their mate in. Again, a contest to see who has the most money/friends.

Seriously what is the difference between buying a shiat load of mags and voting yourself in, or buying votes from Mark M, achieving the same result and donating to the kiddies as well???

Someone mentioned to me in a PM - Has Mark M approached the media sponsors, (4WD Action & DirtComp) to see if they can donate a % of sales to the cause? Maybe he has, maybe they weren't interested, and instead of flaming them or putting them down, he's being a good sport and just not mentioning it? Or possibly due to logistics it's just not possible this year?

As others have said, if anything needs an overhaul, it's the voting system itself, not Mark's charity gig.

Evan i really dont think you get it or your very naive. The public does not vote. Plane and simple. Snowy,Glen Dobbin and Sam Keck proved that last year. They bought no mags themselves and left it up to the public. Non of them got in. Why? Because the public does not vote. Did you really think in the past before Mark started doing this that all those votes competitors were getting were from the public? I dont know a single competitor that has started at the pointy end of the field that has never bought mags to vote for themselves. I have even heard of clubs that have spent club money buying mags to get teams in and starting early. And i know of sponsors that have done the same. Hell i bought a shit load to get myself and Sam O in the year we compeated.

Dont get me wrong i do realise that there would be a few public votes but i doubt there are ever many. If it were left up to the public TTC would then have to decide which of the 30 teams that got 0 votes doesnt get to run.

All Mark is doing is saving competitors the time it takes to run around buying as many mags as they can. And in turn he is raising money for a great cause. If he wasnt doing this the competitors would still be running around buying every mag they can.

Do i beleive in the magazine voting system? Absolutly not. I have been against it from day one. And i suggested years ago the same as Mark has suggested. Buy your gate tickets on line and get votes with them. At least this way the spectators are deciding who they are paying to watch.

im all for charitys but i think they shouldnt be in the event because i think some people use it as a way of an ancor to secure themselves a spot...
selling the votes is pretty f*cked the everyday bloke has to go to the shop to hunt for mags like my mates when there is NONE around so why should only a small amount of people be able to buy bulk votes off of a competitor....... plus ttc managers etc cant exactly put a stop to it as im sure everyone would hear the sob story of ttc officials putting a stop to a charity fund raiser for kids!!!! but anyhow to late now if some people have to buy votes to secure a spot and not let it be the PUBLICS decision then it kinda defeats the purpouse of public voting why not make it the riches blokes are in!!!!!!! my opinion anyhow

So you buy the mag at $9 and get 7 votes or you buy 7 votes for $7 bucks and money goes to charity  Rich get richer by being smarter. that is some pretty basic maths there :!: And really as said before how many of the PUBLIC actually vote. add up all the competitors votes and divide by 7. Not a whole lot is it
All motorsport is played by whats between the rules not whats in them.

especially after you subtract the self bought competitors votes.

I come from a Club with a membership of 8. Perfect, nice and small BUT not a lot of voteing power. I could not give a shit if I start 4th or 40th( I just wanna start).

I am just annoyed I have already spent $40 and ran all around town for 28 points, when I could have 40 points.
Speak to you soon Mark.

SORRY to hear you have pulled out Shawn and Duncan.

it would also have benefits for those people with their own business, or who have a friendly sponsor..
as they cant claim buying magazines as a deduction, but a charitable donation thats a different thing.. thats obviously deductable.

i like the cause. im just not convinced on the methods nor the lack of pre-notification.

Mark have you enquired about raffling off a hot lap? i think the punters would really go for that idea?

Dr mister Pom,

In relation to the first line of your complaint - I am going to assume that you don't mean that I use the charity angle to ancor myself a spot in the event, and what you really meant to imply was that some of the competitors take full advantage of this opportunity to both donate to charity & to ancor themselves a better position in the running order!

As what I & many others WHO GET IT have tried to explain to a few of you - THE VOTING SYSTEM IS FLAWED - FACT & that EVERY COMPETITOR GETS HIS/HER CLUB, FAMILY & FRIENDS TO BUY MAGS FOR THEM TO ANCOR HIS/HER POSITION IN THE EVENT - FACT.

As i have written earlier in this discussion & again above, you the competitor & your everyday bloke mates are out there trying to find & buy magazines to vote YOU into this years event.

I know first hand how hard its to find places/newsagents that stock more than a couple of mags or any for that matter, I know how much time it takes to drive around looking for them, I know how much money it costs - $9.90 per mag, I know how boring it is to cut out hundreds of forms, I know what writers cramp feels like - personally writng thousands of team names on the forms, I know where the official Tuff Truck form counter lives - because i personally deliver them to him - so now that i have had my WHINGE

For you imformation - i still have MANY THOUSANDS of votes left for sale! - so you & your mates have the same & equal opportunity, as do the rest of the competing field - to buy some some votes & help raise money for the Westmead Children's Hospital - & at the same time recieve a thank you letter & tax deduction reciept from the hospital.

There is an old saying - TALK IS CHEAP!

So now the ball is in your court?

I wish you & your team good luck

See you at the Event

Regards

Yes, i am awaiting a meeting with Pagie, however he is extreamely busy at the moment.

Everyone was who bought votes of me last year was told i would do it again this year! - and if i'm not mistaked didn't you and your team buy votes of me last year?

If you had $50 to invest to could buy 5 mags - 5 x max 7 votes = 35 votes, my way $50 gets you 50 votes + a tax`deduction.

In the meetings i had with the officials, i put forwards that all the reserves should get a drive, 1. because some cars will break down. 2. because spectators want to see many cars competing all weekend. 3. so the reserves get to show the crowd how good they are which might encourage more votes next year. 4. so the sponsors have many cars driving around showing of their names.

In relation to more charitable opportunities, I am proposing to the officials that we raffle off about 44 places to the public to sit in the passangers seats of competitors trucks and be part of a drive through the mud parade in single file on the Saturday night after the competitors have all finished.

You can support the charity - but that does not mean you are in for sure, the only thing in life for sure is death & taxes.

Just got off the phone with Pagie -

I have to write a plan for him, we are considering just after the show & shine, all cars are there & shiny - good for sponsors & public.

ps - did you or your team by votes of me last year?

Just heard that the biys from Run-a-Muck 4WD Club in QLD have donated $1000. And they didnt even want the votes.
Too me, that is just a huge gesture. The same guys donated $500 last year and didnt want any recognition, they just wanted to help.
