quick question about a 5LE motor conversion

Post by brad 93hilux »

Mate of mine has a lux with a 5le motor in which got rolled... The engine only has 40,000 kms on the clock (is the verry last of the old shape before the current model) has no oil leaks and engine and gearbox is in perfect cond...

Now he only wants $3000 for the whole car (car isn't a write off but has been quoted $10,000 to fix it- was worth $24,000)
so i was thinking i'm having problems with my lux overheating and since i tow a boat all around the country side, i was thinking maybe jst buying this off him and bolting that engine in and putting my turbo on it and winding down the boost to aroung 6psi...

I know the engine jst bolts straight up (except for the wiring loom) but was wondering if the gearbox will do the same as well?

Just thinking it might be easier buying that and bolting it up and have the 5L turbo working nice and easy rather than my 2.8 turbo working hard as and overheating?

Sound reasonable????

Brad

does that mean the gear box cross member and engine mounts will all line up?

dude sounds like a sweet buy and good idea - but why the hell is he selling a wreck for 3k, when he can have it fixed for 10k (i.e 13k total) if its worth 24 grand?

great deal for you, but... seems stupid for him to lose so much money.

Because both me and him are from NSW, we came over to WA to earn some good coin in the mine.. and the mine has shut down and we basically got sacked.
Now the poor bastard has 5 kids and has jst moved all his family here, not to mention a few weeks before the mine shut down a person borrowed his car and rolled it and promised to pay him the ten grand, he stupidly took the word and now the person has done the runner.... he has no car, no job, no money, and 5 kids to look after.

So thats all he wants to get him back to nsw to start again....

but not sure if i will take it off him yet as i feel bad for him and kinda guilty i'm getting a awsome deal and he is gettin screwed...

But if it all fits and he needs the cash the that is what i might do...

cheers

Sorry to hear shiet has happened....if you are not looking water, i would be looking at new viscous fan, thermistat and radiator for yours....if you go the v8 mate, you will have to go back to 3.7's...how is that front diff going??

yeh great, hasnt missed a beat, it all turned out really well..

Yeh i figured about the diff ratio's thats why i was jst hoping to keep a diesel. I figured instead of my 2.8 with the turbo working hard as to make the power, i could have the more powerful 5LE and bolt my turbo on it with low boost and have the engine not working as hard to produce the same power.

same power... that will last about a week  then you will think 'hmm i could judt crank up the boost and fuel a bit to see what its like, i mean ill put it back afterwards, but ill just try it for a few days to see whats its capable of... :P

if your engine is overheating i would say its a symptom of that engine/ issue of that individual engine. there is no reason why the new engine should not run like a dream making better power. as long as the engine is good.

the other side to it is i have pressure leaking from out of the head gasket on mine between head and block, so i figured i may have a slightly warped head and will need fixing soon any way....

Was thinking this would be a cheap (er) option..
