air bags

Post by Hally »

well thanks to bush65 for all his research I got board and impatient so I went down to the airbag man and bought some rear air bags 1T14C-8 bellows but they would not swap the pistons :bad-words: and if i want to change them to the 9778/NAD-18053 units it will cost $70 :bad-words: .

so I will just run with the other type for now. The install took 1hr for the first bag and 30mins for the otherside. I'm using 14" shocks and couldnt really test them out at this stage but I have a few pics a me stuffing around in the backyard.

Airbag Suspension

Post by twistylandroverguy »

Just an Idea, and perhaps more complicated than anyone is interested in trying, but I've built a 4 link setup for the rear of my 109" and am using the firestone w01-358-5429 bags. The difference with my setup is that I'll be mounting them halfway up the lower links to effectively double their travel. When you build the upper and lower mounting plates, the upper needs to hinge to follow the lower link, the lower needs to be welded to the link arm, and some method of keeping the air spring in line must be used. I'm going to try double wide drive chain to keep the plates in line. This also doubles as a very strong check strap to limit bag travel. If someone can tell me how to post pictures, or give me an email adress of someone who can, I'll provide some pictures of the 4 link setup in my 109". thanks. P.S. If anyone wants the geometry I used to design the 4 link, the link is: [url]http://www.muddtanks.com/4LinkSuspArticle.htm

How's everybody going with their air setups?
I'm interested because I'm planing on converting the front of the D2 to air and running a four corner setup.

Bush65 are you still planning on running 1t14 or 1t26?

Thanks for posting Hally. Hmm, I am quite tempted to airbag the rear of my 110 now...

Do you have any larger pics?

Willing to disclose the price???

Yeah the 14C-7 or 8 seem to big at 9.1" max inflated bellow diameter.
I have charts on these springs and the usable stroke
The 1T26D-7 (W01-D08-9310) does 6.3" to 18" for around 12" of stroke
The 1T14C-7 does 8" to 20" for around 12" as well
The 1T14C-8 seems to do 7" on the bumpstop to 21" for 14" of stroke
These are usable strokes from the datasheets.
I can post links/pics etc. of these.
The last two top inches they recommend not using.

Hally how much stroke / top / bottom are you achieving and can you measure the circumference of the bellow is it is inflated?
