Bits and Bobs

Post by Grover-98 »

Took the zook out today and had one of them days.

Firstly the front bumper was damaged so badly by a mate i had to remove it and had a kangaroo jump out in front of us whilst doing 60K on a dirt track and ended up with a tree through the windscreen and almost through the back one...

Now onto tech.

The back seat mounts are stuffed so i was curious if it would be ok to weld it to the floor? mig-welder as it is thin metal. Or get a new back seat if anyone in my area needs me to take one of their hands!

And i now have no front windscreen and as it is a bush bashes i was thinking maybe i could use perspex?

And thirdly there is a chatter in the front right wheel on hard left lock any idea what this could be? everything seems in good order!

Cheers guys hope to hear back!

there are polycarb windows available (bulletproof glass)... although you could go to a wrecker and get one there on the cheap.

back seats are over rated - take them out and enjoy a somewhat larger tray =) haha

oh - and my seats bolted on and fix to some 10mm round bar in the tray... shouldnt need to weld them in.

The one up the bay is good, or all 4x fours at kotara.Dont bother with Tony's, as he hasn't got much left for sierras

you really don't want to have an acrylic wind screen. some types are very brittle and all types scratch very easily.

Can we keep the offers of parts to PM please. Tech on windescreens, seats etc is fine, but if this turns into a for sale/wanted type thread - its gone.

If it's unregoed and just used around paddocks, i wouldn't even bother with a windscreen.

Just weld a piece of welded wire mesh in it's place to keep the branches out.

Cheers guys i have sorted most problems out i removed the front bumper and i will fix the seat up this arvo.

Only drama is the windscreen, many have said perspex is too unsafe as it brakes in long sharp pieces and scratches very easy!

So i will leave it for now and i will wait till a cheap windscreen appears in a wreckers.

Polycarbonate is the go for windscreens where legality is not a concern. BBM(?) used to sell scratch resistant polycarb screens for about $300 from memory.

Polycarbonate will NOT break into sharp slivers, but generally scratches very easily and is not always UV stable, so it may need frequent replacement.

Personally, I wouldn't run a screen on a paddock car.

welded wire mesh covered in perspex .. safe from perspex shards and plenty tough.

I have welded the back seat into place so it will no longer move around which is much safer!

And i have fixed the front right corner after the collision with the bank :x and have decided for now not to worry about a windscreen and see how things go :?

Now that i have sorted out all of them problems it wont run smoothly see following link if you have any ideas what it could be

Noise from the wheel when turned sounds like a busted CV. Unlocke hte hub and put the t-case in 2wd and see if it does it. If it stopps, it will most likley be a CV. If not, pull the hub down and inspect. Actually iether way you will be pullin the hub down.
