simex's .. how do they rate on sierra's ???
i'm lookin to run some 33's in either the jungle trekker's or the ceterpiede
(preferabily the later) i just wanna know how you suzuki nutts out there go about bagging them down ??? i'm running 31" MTR's at the moment and they bag down really good a 7psi but i'm worred about the simex's being too hard in the sidewall and with such a lite car as a sierra ute, that i won't be able to bag them down for them to work??
so people's experences with this situation would be much appreciated

Hi,
A mate of mine ( i think you know him, i saw him in one of your pics) Greg use to run 35 centipedes on his susuki.
We started of running them at 6 psi thinking that was quite low, until we realised that they were not bagging out at all, we ended up running them a 0 psi and they still didn't bag out!
He put my 35 boggers on and they bagged out at 8psi.
He sold them pretty soon after that!!!!
In my opinion i think they are a great tyre for a heavier vehicle, say hilux or nissan!

are the jungle trekkers a bit of a softer side wall?? or should i just go and get some mongrels ?? i like the simex's better because they've got heaps more rubber on them and heaps more life in them too

The mongrels are stiffer than the Simexes. We have only just started having members running the Simexes. So far the reports have been good but dropping pressure to make them bag has been unsuccessful due to no beadlocks. As stated by others they work fine on the heavier cars but on a Zuk probably not. Have you thought about a 34 x 9.50 Super Swamper myself and greg run them on our Zuks and they are a great tyre, bag out nicely.

tyres need time to soften, if they soft from the start, may be weak when older?
also, you won't see the bagging out of tyres on such a light car, but the tyres can still work great(my SAT's never looked soft even at 4psi)
thinner tyres appear less bagged, not sure on the technical reason for that.

a trick I heard from a few people and which I did with my swampers was to run them on the road for a few short trips with about 4psi it softened them up.
Disclaimer: I don't recommend this, I just did it, if you do and stuff your tyres sorry but I warned you and all that sort of stuff to get me out of trouble if it goes pear shaped
I think you'll also find that the Mongrels will vary a bit as they are remoulded tyres so the different carcases they are based on will play a small part in the flexibilty of the tyres

Did you pick up regular JT2s or were they K-PLUS models? They will have a K-PLUS thingy moulded into the sidewall, the k-pluses do have a heavier sidewall.
Built, not bought.

My Claws barely move at 2 psi .. but a bias ply gets alot more flex in the tread area than the sidewall .. There is a very noticeable difference in traction between 10 and 5 PSI .. yet no noticeable change in appearance to the tyre ..
" If governments are involved in the covering up the knowledge of aliens, Then they are doing a much better job of it than they do of everything else "
I have 34 JT2's on the sierra, alloy tray on the back 4-6 psi and they don't bag out like a muddy but do get reasonable surface area and contour a bit, I thow sand bags in the back or something for weight when driving currently 8 railway sleepers cut in half, they are pretty good tyres still. I would probably look at something else though if doing mosty rock work.
Check out the most recent petersons (with four wheel drive of the year on the cover - out now with subscription)... it's got a great little writeup on some tyres - which had to meet the criteria of daily driver and mud tyre...
The tyres they tested were:
1. goodyear mtr
2. baja claw (bias)
3. bfg mud
4. procomp x-terrain
5. interco trx/muddy
6. interco superswamper tsl...
They were tested using the following criteria:
1. distance that they pushed the test car into a mud pit
2. how loud they were on the road
3. how good they looked
All tyres were set to 25psi for the tests
The superswamper tsl finished within the top 2 of every test except for road noise (but who cares about that anyhoo?)...
Conclusion:
Swampers are the business

Agreed my yoko MT radials and don't really bag out to much but the length of their footprint increases considerably with airing down. Even my bias-ply boggers don't really "bag out" to much
If it's already been thought of...
There has to be a better way...

Even though I could not see them bagging out from what I could see in the drivers seat, they still could have been bagging out quite a bit when I was going over rough stuff. There was a big difference between 18 and 10psi. Reckon I could still go alot lower, but think I have to be cautious with out beadlocks.
