drivetrain heat?

Post by brendan_h »

was getting some funny noises coming from under the car. lounding like a chain dragging on the groud. so i had a look under and the uni is stuff.
how first off the shaft i could only hold for a few seconds befor it started to realy burn. the same happned for the rear diff, tcase and the gearbox. the tcase has just been rebuild with new gears and all new bearings. the rear diff has a lokright locker and im running some lsd diff oil in there as recomended by the guy who installed the locker.
is this normal for it to get pritty hot? i was doing about 80kmh for about 15mins before i pulled over.

Everything will heat up, but how hot is the question. My driveline will get warm, but not enough that i cant hold my hand on it. YMMV though. What oil do you have in the case etc. You do have oil in them dont you :silly:

my tunnel gets warm inside the car from the box, but nothings scorching under there - however the passengers side footwell/firewall is a whole other story - the 1.6's extractors are a tight fit and run close to the firewall and my g/f has burnt her toes a few times =) hehe
