recovery points on vitara

i never really thought till the other day when i got under my 94 vit where i would mount proper recovery points...
up until now i have just been using my tie down points for recovery...

anyone got any ideas?

I"d love the same info for my vitara

I've got a towbar on the rear, wondering if the steel bar that is mounted to both chasis rails would be appropriate to mount one on the rear

On the front I've got an ARB Winch Bar, anyone got new hooks mounted on the front of one of those ?

The main trouble is that the chassis is so thin and even the ARB attachment points need beefing up.
To get it right you need to use 12 mm bolts through tubes through the chassis. It usually means adding 5 mm plates so you can extend forward to give you some room to bolt on a hook.
If you put a hook on top of the ARB bar, there is too much leverage and you might pull the whole thing off in a good snatch. You also have to consider sideways pulls and the leverage that puts on your mounting point.

I have wondered this myself.

There is no flat area to do it on that I can find. I bought a hook to work out where it could go. The only place I could find was chassis rail up front, but it is not flat, so you can't get a proper mount.

Anyone else with photos?

i have looked at the rails up front and they are to high up and far bit back to mount a toe took without the strap or winch cable fouling with the front bull bar, if standard bar the strap would rip the bar up and prob right off..

another thing is if a toe hook was mounted the rails would prob have to be beefed up they look thin and flimsy

now thats an idea....winch and all... but would the vitara chasi hold up? how much beefing up would the chasi need?????

if only using it as recovery and is nmounted with crush tubes if possible then it should be fine,

if using winch then not too sure.

im not sure if the the early vitara's & GV's are the same but my '97 SV420 j20a vitara has 2 nice chassis rails that you could put crush tubes & backing plates on?
there is already a top mount with a captive nut & heaps of nice flat chassis.

this is prior to a body lift
