some kits have every seal and bearing needed from ( and including ) the inner axle seal out including wheel bearings and shims for setting the pre-load on the swivel bearings.
other kits will just have swivel bearings stub axle seal and axle needle roller bearings.
just check what you're getting with your kit.
im thinking that if your swivel seals are leaking its probably a good idea to get a full kit and freshen everything while its apart.
Koyo bearings are good, so is most stuff made in Japan.
Last kit i got was complete, except for wheel bearings, had koyo bearings and cost $140 for a GU. was a Maxitrac kit i think.
oh it had no shims either.
I think it is different for each type of 4x4 as to whether you get shims or not. My MQ/MK kits from bursons had shims, my GQ kit didn't. My Hilux kit from bursons had shims, my sierra ones didn't.
However, i DO know that if you are forced to buy genuine shims - have your cheque-book handy. As said - make sure you're getting a FULL kit, and if its not a complete kit, make sure the retailer has shims available anyway.

yeh thats a really good point guy.
I was reading thru the manual and it said to just use the shims that are already fitted, and mark where they were from. but i didnt think about what would happen if it needed more after i replaced all the other bits in it.
Found out my mate has a really good deal with Bursons. His old man own a earth moving company. So where he rang up and got the price for me, it was 60% off. Crazy discount.
BUt again thanks for the help.

Wow just shows there is a lot of myths in the air,
I work at Terrain Tamer and I can assure you the TT kits do not come out of China. I don't know about the other brands but anyone in Melbourne should come in and have a look at head office. The kit production is hard work. Also certainly only Japanese parts. Koyo are Japanese, NOK Seals ect. All these parts are OE Manufactured from Japan. So don't be fooled there is a big difference in quality when it comes to Japanese.
They will be around the mark but don't expect them to be the cheapest because the slogan is 'When Quality Counts'. If you going to the trouble then why would you risk it with cheap product. Just do it properly once.
Also the Terrain Tamer Swivel Housing Kits come with Shims.
