what shocks? and tires?

Post by 86 Hilux »

hi all
my 86 hilux is up for new front shocks, the suspension is all standard, what shocks would be best suited for my ute, im looking for a nice ride (for a hilux). and what size tyre could i go to without changing anything, currently running 235/75, looking to go a bit taller and wider.
cheers

What motor do you have, petrol or diesel? Do you tow a lot, what sort of driving do you on/offroad?

Shocks - I would look at Ranchos, you can tune them to suit the ride you're after, whether you're empty or a full tray. Interleaf friction will reduce the ride quality, and also reduces the need for a really stiff shock, so tunability is a big plus for comfort and additional load control when you need it.

Tyres - You could easily run 32's (31's if you were wanting a more conservative size increase), of course you will notice a power loss, but you may be happy for the look and clearance.
Built, not bought.

Its a 2.4 diesel, dont tow much, is used on raod a fair bit nut when it is taken off road alot of the time will be in mud and up steep roccky hills. Im not doing the rear shocks at the moment just the front. would there be much power loss going to 31's, what width could i go . does anyone know what inch 235/75 are. i could measure but anyway.
cheers

if it helps in the future. the millimetric system works this way.

width = 235mm

hight,

Sidewall = 75% of width (obviously you need 2 of these)
+rim size = 16inch

so to answer your question
235/75x16's are 30x9.5x16

If you are running stock height suspension in an 86 Lux I am guessing it would be stuffed by now. In this case you will have trouble clearing 31 x 10.5's on full lock.

Before I lifted my 90 model the 10r's rubbed on full lock quite easily.
