intertstate rego transfer

Hi all

new guy on this site so take it easy on me... Just bought a patrol from vic and drove it back to qld, its still registered in vic until i get the rwc in qld... thing is, the rwc is "forgetting" there is a 2 inch body lift and after market seats, when i take it to qld transport to get it re-registered, will they go over it looking for things like that ? it has a 2 inch suspension lift and 285/75/16's on it at them moment so it sits ok. should i put some lower springs and change the seats in it when i take it down, overall the car is very tidy and has no fancy barwork, has anyone gone through this with qld transport. i rang qld transport and they said that they only have spot checks... not sure how true it is as my mechanic said they might go over all interstate vehicles.

Q: do you know someone who does rwc's???
if so get them to pass it for you.
i went with my mate to qld to register his jeep tj wrangler
it has 33' baja claws on it, lift..ect
got a rwc for it and never looked back, never got checked by transport
u should be fine.. just keep a low profile from cops for a few weeks after it and if the transport call u to look at it tell them the car is in nsw on a trip

i am getting it passed for a rwc, im just not sure because it is from another state if they will inspect it more than if it was already registered in qld, if someone with half a brain comes out to get the vin number etc, and see the body lift, thay might say, this has to go over the pits etc... hopefully it is some youg chick that doesn know... might have to bring a lil step ladder so she can read the numbers...

my mates jeep was previously reg in nsw...
and its pretty rough so it sticks out like dogs ballz... u wont have any probs.. just park it in the garage, if they knock on your door tell them its out on a trip-nsw or something

yeah, make it roadworthy like everyone elses is... im just trying to find out if they have a good look over your vehicle or not, only thing that not roadworthy is seats and bodylift.

haha then he might as well of bought a stocker from qld instead of falling in love with a modified one from vic!!
dont worry about it mate the rta and most cops r unknowledgeable, they dont know wat to look 4 on a 4wd,
i got defected on Australia day at stockton beach nsw
they got me for 31's and fog light-wtf??? they r illegal to use 99%of the time anyways...
he didnt get me for lift-inc 50mm coil spacers, chopped guards..ect

how did they sting you for 31's ???? yeah i heard fog lights are only legal if used in fog... think someone was on a powertrip...

its a vitara..lol come stock with 205 60 r15 small as..
yeah the fog light worked but he didnt like it cause one was cable tied on.. when i got it cleared the mechanic laughed and said was this guy drunk? maybe too many Aust day drinks...

yeah power trip hard... but didnt know jack s#$t about a 4wd.. they were sitting at the entrance to the beach...
they had their defect book out pullin every 4wd in, and gettin ppl for everything, the guy infront of me had a hilux with bodylift, drop shackles, 33's, and god only knows wat else and he got a defect for blinker globe out... how could they not have noticed his bright shiney blue drop shackles???

Most times when registering an interstate vehicle in Qld one of the people from Dept. Transport will come out to the car and verify the engine and chassis number. Thats it.. Usually one of the office girls anyway.

You'd be best off getting a modplate for the seats and bodylift though.

thanks for the info, i asked bout what i had to do to get the bodylift legal, and they said it had to go over the pits and they would pick on everything that was not right, has nylon blocks now, but getting steel ones put in. will be getting mod plates for the seat also... cheers

go wreckers buy cheap ripped seats put em in for rwc-put seat covers on em..
while u r goin to change your body lift take it out, put it back to standard and get your rwc, then put your new BL and custom seats back in

Usually they come out, check engine number, vin, and sometimes verify the seating capacity and that belts are fitted. That is as far as I have experienced.

Yes, but he is in Qld, so RTA of NSW dont mean shit. Im sure the dozen or more cops on here are happy to hear they are stupid.

i bought my old patrol up from nsw. they asked me if it was "here" (so they can inspect) i said no they handed me the plates n i left with it registered.

they only have to inspect the car if there are changes.......... eg new motor and they only have to inspect a percentage odf cars that get reistered so 99% of the time if u say its not there they move on

ok.. not all just some-the h.p. they are just not knowledgeable of 4wd mods. all they specialise in defects are lowered cars with big sound systems

good to hear, might try that one first. if not, i have some normal springs to put in before i take it down. cant wait to actually get time to get out wheelin again

Your best bet would be to take it to an authourised inspection station that does Mod plates. A 2" lift is legal and so is a body lift up to 50mm if mod plated. They will tell you if your seats are legal or not, if the rest of the car is roadworthy you might find that they could turn a blind eye on the seats and say that they were fitted after the inspection. Generally you'll only need a mod plate for your seats if you change from a bench to buckets or vise versa.

Except that Body lifts caqn only be approved by QLD transport inspection stations, and you are supposed to apply for permission to do the BL in writing beforehand.

The best bet would be to call QLD transport, tell them the situation, and get it all mod plated and legal.

Undoubtedly the right way to do it. If you explain the car has come from interstate I don't think they'll get upset that you haven't applied in advance (I suspect they only want you to do that so they can advise you whether or not they will accept your modifications - if you don't apply first, you risk being told to change something.)

If you want to take your chances, head in and play dumb - you might get away with it.

Worst case, they'll give you some forms to fill out, and you'll have to follow the steps.

Do it sooner rather than later - you don't want the interstate rego to run out before you've jumped through all their hoops.

Ripped seats even with seat covers fitted are NOT Roadworthy in QLD. Not worth the expense and time to swap them just to do a DODGY when a mod plate is $90 and ten minutes at an approved engineer.

are there any links, or does anyone know any engineers in the brisbane area that do this kind of approval ? and im guessing i need a mod plate for the safari turbo on it as it did not have one stock ?
