Hi everyone, this is my first post on this site, only new. Wish i had of found this place earlier, excellent forum.
I have read some previous threads on the matter, but what i wanted to know was (i know a few have already done it here) what costs would i be looking at to covert to a EFI Holden V8. Not so much the conversion kit or motor but things like, does it need re wiring, air con, brakes and power steering modifications, can i keep my original fuel tanks, what is the best cooling set up, and more importantly how much would an engineers report cost?
Kit will be from Marks 4wd adaptors, and motor will most likely be a 1997 EFI 304. It will really just be a hunting and bush bashing rig, but i want it to be reliable and have a bit more power then the 1HZ. And no i dont want to turbo the 1HZ as its on its last legs, i want the sound and power of a V8, but without the cost of a Chev Diesel.
Vehicle is a 1990 HZJ75 Trayback. Thanks in advance,
PS. i have seen some Traybacks on here that i would just die to have. Keep up the good work everyone

Im here for the sausage!
mate the kit and the motor are the priciest bits...
the engine mounts are available from marks.
the radiator in mine i run a 60 series metal radiator, engine fan and a thermo just incase.
i have no clue on AC as i am in a 40 series for comps.
but a rough run down on my prices was...
engine $1000
engine mounts $200ish from marks.
TH400 gbox $300 + rebuild now.
adaptor from TH400 to GQ transfer $510 thanks ebay.
the computer came with it. a couple of my mates got it going at home and wired up but yeah no AC etc.
marks sell a plug and play wiring loom for this conversion for a few hundred more$$$..
if your handy you could get out of it for about $2500...
and yeah a V8 landcruiser is sweeet.
fuel tanks i use a 100 series sub tank with the commodore V8 fuel pump instead of the landcruiser one as the pressures were too different.
new fuel lines were needed as the EFi is high pressure and the diesel hose wasnt up for it.
power steering required new hoses from V8 holden pump to landcrusier box. cost about $150 to have them made.
and i run a steering cooler up front and an auto cooler.
but if you are handy and have the time and tools $2500 and your driving off.

hi
ive put a 5l into my 75 and love every bit of it
its a pretty straight forward swap, as for all the costs just comes down to how much you want to do your self, but some things you just cant, like air con, and the auto electrical, exhaust
air con, if its working now with no leaks, say $500 to $800 as you will need custom lines with the diffrent in fittings etc
auto electrical, bit hard to price as my truck has neally had a re wire, say with every thing $1000.00, just for the engine, if things need a tidy up could be extra
exhast, i was lucky with that to pick up a set of extractors that just fitted and cleared the chassie rails, the standard headers will hit on the rails, so you should be looking for some, say if you had the extracters, dont for get you will need a oxygen sensor, say $500 to $700 if you had the extactors,
brakes should be fine,
power steering, i just used pirtek $300
the other thing will be your front springs, i know when i put the v8 into mine when it was still leaf sprung it lifted about 30mm, due to the v8 being a lot lighter, than the diesel
i used my fuel tanks and just modified them to suit the petrol, all that was needed was a retun fuel line and a extra breather, you will have to up grade your fuel lines as they are not big enough in size, and you dont have a return line, the fuel pumps ive used are high pressure and a surge tank, system, say with the 2 pumps, surge tank, and fuel tank mods $800.00
as for the radiator ive used the standard one and just had it modified to suit the v8, and had no drammers at all with over heating, say with reco and changing the tanks around etc $600
so thier is a total of $4200 just for the things you cant do
plus your engine and your addapter, clutch fly wheel etc
and engineers
it soons adds up to say a $8,000 to $10,000 job by the time your compleated
