group buy on roll cages for swb GQ's and mk/mq's now
well as the tittle states, im interestd to see who else would be keen in a 4 point roll cage for their shorty, if theres enough interest we could look into 6 points instead/as well, and if people dont need it to comply with ccda it can be done with the tube used for bull bars to keep costs down (different thinkness or something). have talked about it with millweld a while agao but going there tomorrow so will ask a bit more, will also enquire with tomahawkracefab, cheezy, ontrack and others if there is enough interest in the same thing. also post up what you want/need so i can try to get some specifics, im going to be looking to get one in the next month or two after my engine is in so people would have a bit of time to gather funds.
im looking for it to be finished and installed too, so nothing would be needed to be done by the buyer.
cheers shannon

Re: group buy on roll cages for swb GQ's
Same questio from patrol forum.
Wouldnt you go with this CCDA std as a mininmum for safety? Unless its just for looks.
IMWO if it was me, my head maybe hideous, it doesnt need anymore damage A rollcage is there to save ya arse and would want the strongest possible.
Did that GQ Proddy class ever get off the ground?
And the obvious question everyone will ask - costs.

same answer as patrol forum too
ccda is the std for racing and a lot of people dont plan on comps but want the extra safety, they specify a certain type of tube cos its bloody good but the stuff that is used for good tube bars weighs more but cost less, still bloody strong otherwise it wouldnt be used, yeh productin class runs but for the bigger comps i think you still need a 6 point,i have had rough prices of 5-600 for bullbar tube and 7-800 for the better stuff so expect to part with at least $500 to be a part of this.

The tube in my cage is lighter than bullbar tube. But will be stronger than most cagesGQshaz wrote:same answer as patrol forum too

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY....
well i was at millweld today, he said a 4 point made from the right stuff (44 something something) with removable cross braces in the main hoop would be around $600ish but would prob drop to around $500ish if more than 3 were being bought/made at the same time (could get better if there are 5+), a bolt in version would cost a bit more due to the extra hassle so ill be going with weld in, if people would prefer he can mount them far enough back so the front seats can be moved right back for tall people and the back stays can be done so that people can still run rear seats if they want/need by taking the cross braces out.
for a 6 point it would be more like $1700ish so im just gunna go with a 4 point.
the prices are for the cages fully installed
ive probably forgotten something so if you have any questions ask away
if people want to sus out some of his work he'll have 4 cars at the wandin 4wd show later this month.

dont think it would be much of a problem, i assume the shape/lenght of the cage wouldn't be much different to a gq, ill ask mill next w/e at wandin 4wd show, should be easy to put in cos you can take the top off the mq cant you? would you have any specific needs that may be different for your setup?

my sugestion is to look at bond roll bars in sydney, they can nock up bolt in cages and ship, be pretty cheap for group buy and ship the lot, they are bolt in, fully removable etc, fitting the front hoops of the cage to the front of the vehicle in a full 6 point in a massice pita though oif you are looking at a 6 point as you need to pull the dash out and is worth pulling the windscreen out as well
bond use a bolt up system to join all the bars ie rear links to rear hoop, rear hoop to front hoops, spreader bar etc, they build them for v8 supercars and other race vehicles and I highly recomend them

well mill said they were almost identical so shouldnt need it, but you have to speak to mill to be sure of the details to suit yours, the idea of a 6 point is really growing on me now, but im sure getting 4's done at the same time will still save money. for those interested 6 point will be $1700 installed but you will need to trim the dash yourself.
6 point cage
Hey All,
I have a 6 point CCDA approved and stamped cage for sale. It is in a Ex comp SWB GQ, can see still in car, not rolled just parting out car. Has mounting points for harness also.
$1200
