Steering Damper recommendations
Can someone recommend a sterring damper for my 80 series?
There are a few to choose from - I've read varying reports on RTC dampers so not sure - could use member's advice on which to buy - thanks

PS - not hard core wheeling, just for my beach fishing truck, road driving to get to the beach ect

80 series Extra Cab - a work in progress.
No No No. The best one to get is the EFS Extreme steering damper.

More to the point is what makes other steering dampers not as good. Basically there are higher failure rates with the adjustable and return to centre type steering dampers and also a higher dislike rate also, even though a good proportion of people do like their RTC or adjustable steering damper.
The only EFS product I recommend these days is their EFS Extreme steering dampers so I am not being biased.
I have tried other brands and as soon as I find a decent steering damper that lasts well then I can totally give EFS the flick.

I will send you a smaller bore steering damper that seems quite stiff for independant testing. I don't know how they go long term yet. Hence why a test dummy would be good.bogged wrote:you better send me one for some independant testing4WD Stuff wrote:More to the point is what makes other steering dampers not as good. It gets very confusing - I checked out your web site - I'm not far from you and want to buy one tomorrow.
Price is not really an issue - there's only $50 either way
What about the Ironman and the Dobinson?
your site says "Dobinsons steering dampers are my recommendation"
Dave
PS - I only have 2" spring lift

Dobinsons steering dampers didn't work out. I am pretty sure they are going to work on them and then I will re look at them again. I spose I should edit my web site.
The Ironman dampers are pretty good. Much better then their shocks and springs but the EFS Extremes are better and in my opinion better value for money even though they cost more.
The normal list price for EFS Extremes is $154 but I haven't sold anything at list price yet
I have plenty on the shelf.

I fitted a tough dog RTC and took it off not long after fitting. I would not fit an RTC again, in my opinion they are a waste of money.
some good comments here, for and against
edited coz I suck at the internets

You might suck at the internets but you explained in that link what I am thinking very well.

I had a TurD RTC damper on my zook, which helped reduce bump steer a bit, until I put a steering kit in it. I then broke it off at the zigzag railway a few months ago, and haven't needed to replace it yet.
What are the Rancho ones like Steve?
I may put one on again in the future, as the wheel can be zippy in rocks and stuff...
