Hi. At the moment i drive a 1999 2.8 rodeo turbo diesel. However im thinking about selling it and buying a 75 series ute as i now have another car to drive during the week. I have never driven one before so obviously i'll be doing that before i get to far ahead of myself. But a test drive around the block can only tell me so much. I am interested to hear from owners on what they think of the car in offorad conditions. I am especially curious about how they go on soft sand as i do a lot of trips to fraser and moreton. I always try to drive at low tide but sometimes its just not always possible depending on barge times ect. Would a 4.2 non turbo be able to hold a decent pace up in the soft sand? I would at least hope it would be the same as the rodeo i currently have. Any comments on the topic would be appreciated.

they go well on sand mines turbo but my to mates arnt decent waight in the rear helps along with good tires mine goes where some of the mor modded trucks go with only a rear diff loker
but they ruff and ready not the gratest ride dure to leaves but wont die even when run out of oil
for a bit of comfit remove a few leafs

I had a non turbo 93 model 75 series ute for 9 years. Although I loved that truck (and they are a truck) they won't go as well as a 2.8 turbo Rodeo.
My house mate had a Rodeo while I had the Cruiser and I gotta admit hers was a fair bit faster than mine.
I had a great run out of the girl though and it was a lot tougher than a Rodeo.
On the sand the Rodeo will be lighter and once on boost will go harder than the Cruiser.

GU ST 4.2 TURBO. 9000lb Warn, Snorkel, 4" Lift, 33" BFG Muddys, ARB Locker, Outback Drawers, Dual Batteries, ARB Roof Rack, IPF HID's, GME UHF, 60lt Engel, Full 3" Exhaust and fuel pump tweaked
As mentioned they're a pretty rough old truck to drive but tough as nails. The diesels go really well with a decent turbo setup, box's are strong, as are diffs especially the earlier (HJ/FJ, not HZJ/FZJ) models. The cabs are pretty tight and the seats are shit - having said I'm 6'3ish and don't find the lack of space that bad if the window's open
It'll definitely be a step back in terms of comfort and on-road drive-ability, but a hell of a lot stronger and more capable/modifiable than the 'deo.
Thought about a GQ/GU coil cab? I'm not a nissan fan by any stretch of the imagination, but they sure drive a lot better
