Burning through EF alternators...

Post by Moph »

Okay, I must be doing something wrong. Burnt out my first 110A EF alternator in 7000 kays. Fitted a 100A EF alt on the weekend - got home from a country trip (500 kays) today and noticed the air con fan sped up when I turned the lights off. Checked with the multimeter - dead  Battery was charging at 14.7V last night, a bit high but not excessive (?), and voltage didn't vary with revs.

Can someone please confirm *exactly* how to wire these things up so I don't keep cooking regulators? I don't get an Alt light up if the alternator is disconnected / not working so something's wrong somewhere, but it does light up when the other idiot lights come on so the bulb is fine....

If the alternator light comes on with the rest of the reds, it means its ok. It will not light up if you disconnect wiring from the alternator

Dunno - tried getting the original one apart but the casings were somewhat siezed. Could get them so far apart then no further. It could be the armatures - I wouldn't know.
