commodore v6 into range rover clas
who has put one of these into a rrc? how did it go with fitting. did you use the auto of rover box? i have found a adapter for a th400, 4l80e to the lt230. my car is a 78 so it has the 4speed/lt95 i think and would like to keep this xfercase if i can.
i'm looking at the vt supercharged 6 ( 171 kw @5200 and 375 nm @3000. weight is about 170 kgs) as i'm sick of trying to track down parts for my 3.5l and i haven't even got it on the road yet! had to wait 3 weeks for a gasket that showed up last week and now waiting on more parts before it can go over the pits

i mean no offence at all but have you ever been in a commodore with one of these engines in it? the calais (weights about 1500-1600 kgs) i drove the other month when helping my step father ( ownes the car) happy pulled a 300 kgs( empty) trailer with about 2 cubic meters of top soil in it and still got 14l per 100ks. thats pretty good in my book, better than the p38 i have with nothing in it.
they have a lot of power down low, about 125 nm more than the 3.5 for 500 more rpm. thats more than the last sierra i had

Going by the bore/stroke of the V6 it should be a goer but possibly change the cam and fuel map for more low down torque, T400 wont fit to a V6 as they used the GM X body fwd bellhousing pattern, a T400 to lt230 adapter may fit the T700. You cant keep the lt95 unless you plan on either using one of the cut down ones used in the BW/C4/C9 auto conversions or custom making the adapter.3.5's are easy to get parts so you must be looking in the wrong places ?
Saddle up tonto, its the not so loanrangie! . 98 TDI DISCO lightly modded with more to come.
T400 adapter won't fit a T700, they are different, probably better fitting a zf and making an adapter for that to the v6. Personbally i think this is a waste of time (i drove a loaded up v6 VZ one tonner, gutless), if your going to the effort stick an injected 5litre in, more power and probably better economy.
Oh , i have a T700/ Lt95 adapter and trans case sitting in my shed i'm thinking of partring with

I had the pleasure of driving a couple of these commodores around at an old workplace. They averaged around 15 litres per 100km when driven empty. On a 30km open road trip they'd still use at least 4 litres. These weren't supercharged.zook4fun wrote:i mean no offence at all but have you ever been in a commodore with one of these engines in it? the calais (weights about 1500-1600 kgs) i drove the other month when helping my step father ( ownes the car) happy pulled a 300 kgs( empty) trailer with about 2 cubic meters of top soil in it and still got 14l per 100ks. thats pretty good in my book, better than the p38 i have with nothing in it.

That's in a vehicle pushing about half the air of a typical landrover product.
Isn't the peak torque of the old 3.5 around 2500rpm?
as for parts in in the ACT right now and no one stocks bits for them so i have to order them in. the gasket i got was the oil pump gasket and it got "lost" in the mail 2 times before i got it.
peak torque of a 3.5l is at 2500rpm but is about 125nm (248 nm @2500 rpm new from what i can find and my engine is tied) less than the 6 at 3000 rpm. i'm not looking at the normal v6 but the supercharged 6. they are 4 bolt mains, rolla camed and last to 250,000 300,000 ks before needing a rebuild, about 50 kgs lighter than the 308, make good power with very little work and will be a lot easyer to get tick off than the 308. i have played with the 308, 304 before and might go that way with a th400 if one comes up for the right price.
6.5 rangie that engine is the alloytech engine not what i'm looking at it is built to rev a lot higher than the s/c 6. pm me with a price about that adapter. i wont have to cash for a bit as i'm moving house right now but will keep it in mind

vz is 3.6 alloytec and yes they are less "torquey" do have a little more up top. apparently the tune was changed in VE to get a bit more pull down low.
zook4fun the s/c 3.8 can put out a hell of alot of power with smallish mods (boost pully, injectors, f/pump, tune and rockers) something different go for it!!!!
go for it mate. i just sold my s/c calais. with a small amount of work it was making 161rwkw and 550nm of torque. more than enough to have fun. and like i said that was only alittle bit of work. these motors can be made big these days!
let me know how you go. i would be interested in putting one in my disco if im going to keep it.

You need to change suppliers, try Land Vehicle Spares near Sydney. Even if they don't have the parts the longest wait is going to be a week. If they have them in stock, then the day after tomorrow. C.O.D. too by the way.zook4fun wrote:as for parts in in the ACT right now and no one stocks bits for them so i have to order them in. the gasket i got was the oil pump gasket and it got "lost" in the mail 2 times before i got it.
Ordered some brake pads on Fraser Island last year, 3 days, and they didn't have those in stack. Not C.O.D. that time.
The money you would spend on the conversion would buy you a really sweet supercharged rover v8, and you wouldn't have to worry about electrics/computers/adaptor plates etc.
Also, I've never had to wait longer than a week for parts, and some have come from overseas. Check out AULRO for their list of reccomended suppliers.

Had a 3.8 Th700 Lt230 in a rover chassis under my last Zook.
It was a 84 four door RR that was damaged when i got it ,
The first gear on th700 is the lowest you will get in an auto and the box also has a .8 odd overdrive so ratios work in well .
Give Tony (Ruff) a pm they made a couple of adapters up for the
moon buggys they biult with the v6 donks.
I like soup , bits n pieces mixed together make it yummy .
