Rescued from the bush!!

Post by ytt105 »

Hurrayh!!
I finally got the Rangie rescued this weekend.
Just to recap, no spark just after new year, vehicle stranded down the south coast (NSW).
1986 RR V8 EFI. I fitted a new ignition module, no go, fitted a new coil, no go.
I've now fitted an old points dissy and it finally goes.
Just one hint, the EFI needs a connection to the coil to read when it is running or else you only get a ehough fuel for about 1 second of running. Changed fuel filter, cleaned out computer and had removed fuel pressure regulator before I twigged to this one.
The car ran like CRAP (stuff all power)all the way home, BUT it did get home!
It couldn't be revved past about 3000rpm. (That was fun coming up the Clyde!) I'm assuming the advance curve on a points dissy is completely different to the one of the electronic dissy and this is why the performance problem.
I'm going to get the dissy curve remapped to my engine and then fit an IgnitorII (by Pretronix) electronic ignition upgrade.
Thanks to all who helped with parts and advice!!
