body lift
body lift
gday all, ive bought a body lift kit and been reading through the instructions and i read that you have to undo the steering column. just asking is that really neccessaary cause it will be a waste of time if i have to loosen or wat eva, cheers
You undo it where the biscuit goes anyway, so just do it. I didn't put it in the instructions for shits and giggles. That's why I'm up to the Revision C of the instructions, because I'm making it easier or letting you know what to look out for. That one step can save you about 30 -60 minutes of swearing cursing and skinned knuckles.
;)
Did it a couple of months ago with just cruizin's kit. I cant actually see how you can do the 2in lift without disconnecting it or at least loosening it as in its origional position the biscuit was bending/warping quite a bit (ie a lot of tension on the biscuit). Just take the bolts completely out at the biscuit and the uni, a lot of WD40 and mabey some tapping/spreading and bingo you have a nice and free steering column that wont give ya any drama's.
yer well its just that im not that familiar with steering colomns and the steering box yet im not just gona look at something for the first time and know wat to do straight away. im just learning im only 17 and trying to find out as much stuff as possible so dont jump dowm me throat for trying to learn somethin. but thanks for all ya help aswell !
Plopper,
You're getting a hard time because you answered your own question in your first post: read the instructions.
As you're 17 and can't work out what do do by just looking at something - read the instructions.
That's the best way to learn. The instructions were written by someone who probably can look at something and work out what to do the first time, so the fastest way to learn won't be to try and do it some other way.
Good on you for having a go, but if you are trying to avoid unbolting the steering shaft you're probably not ready to install a body lift yourself. I think I'd be either paying for it to be installed or try and work in with some experienced spanner spinners to get some good guidance.
I'm not having a go at you - please take it the right way. A body lift involves having a good understanding of how to work though a task safely. You're messing with some important stuff.
Steve.

I think what Steve was getting at (to be more blunt) was that if you can't arse your way through fitting a steering shaft biscuit then you're probably not mechanically minded enough or experienced to attemp a body lift by yourself. The body lift isn't very technical, and the steering shaft even less but I can see how it would appear daunting for someone with no mechanical experience. Like Steve said I suggest you find yourself a competent person close buy (possibly off here even) and chuck them a carton and learn some things.plopper wrote:yer i know how to to do the body lift, it was just that im not that familiar with like the " biscuit " and the steering coloumn, but my brothers gona help me out so thanks for the help steve i understand wat ya mean, im not a type of guy that doesnt know wat a spanner is im not to bad with that kinda stuff so its just that im not familiar with modyifying steering columns, but thanks for ya help mate qppreciate it
