Need new tyres in Sydney - where and what brand?

Post by cocacola-light »

Hi,
With your help I found my car to travel through Australia. Already done my first 4000km from Brisbane to Sydney with some 4wd driving. Now I need two new tires.

I have BFGoodrich AT in 31 x 10.50 R15 right now. Is this brand good quality? What other brand should I look for?

What tire shop is good and not too expensive?

Cheers [/url]

If you only need 2 tires, then get these. saves you 500+ on 3 others.

what car are they going on?

Yes, I only want to buy two tires. Had a flat tire in the rainforest (with lots of rain), which was no fun at all :bad-words:

A garage fixed the tire but told me to get some new ones, soon.

It's a Toyota Landcruiser 60.

They aren't the greatest tyre, however they should be fine for what you're doing.

Good to see you finally out there enjoying our fantastic country.

Yeah! It's a great feeling to be on the road.

So I did some phone calls this morning. I ask for All-Terrain-Tires. What I could get:

Magnus Tire: $176
Goodyear Wrangler: $184
Bridgestone: $185
BFGoodrich: $198
Coopers: $270
Mickey Tompson $274

Milperra Tyre has some Dunlop AT with 70% and 80% each for $95

Which ones should I consider? Which ones are crap?

Why change? you will have 5 the same - in some states its "illegal" to run mixed/odd tires on the front together .. and same mixed on the rear.

Good point. But they are both for the rear.

Is the price of $198 ok?

Call a few more tire places, and find out.. All depends on where you are. Doesnt sound bad to me.

Remember, at somestage you will get a flat, have to change it, and then if you get another flat, chances are you will end up with odd tires sometime...

But make a few more calls first.

No idea mate!

You're probably better off buying new ones though. I buy second hand tyres because majority of the time i'm driving up and down the freeway. However for my offroad tyres - they are bought new because i dont want to risk a failure when i'm far away from home.

That's true.

I just figured out that the $198 I found is not near Sydney (It's called Sydney street tyre, but it's 500km north) The cheapest BFG i found in this area is $284!!! (5 other places i found want more than $320)

So if anybody could get me a good place to call I would be happy.
