USA guys tend to run big motors that use little boost at cruise so there is not a lot of point running it at cruise, hence they usually use it when you want high power, just like a nos system.
however we have a lot of small turbo motors which sit on high boost at cruise. you can use WI almost all the time. you can get some decent gains in economy as well as power. however you will need a large tank.
i'm looking at fitting one to the ute. i worked out it would use around 20l of water for every 60l of fuel. finding room for a 20l tank is a pain.
afaik there is only one manafacture which uses an injector setup. most just controll the speed of the pump to control injection pressure.

US guys running low boost? people doing the disel dyno runs are all over 50 PSI and some are up to 90+PSI of boost with compund systems.tweak'e wrote:USA guys tend to run big motors that use little boost at cruise so there is not a lot of point running it at cruise, hence they usually use it when you want high power, just like a nos system.

They do have larger motors though so you can go way up without upgrading it much, motor that isa nd the new 2008 powerstrokes now have a compund turbo setup from factory.
Here we have tiny motors 4 litres compared to 7+ litre motors, it just doesn't compare.
Anyway, a lot of the guys running high boost run the water systems as like a nos shot to help cool the incoming air to ring out that extra bit of power, it's not really something you can use all the time, you'd use it for overtaking etc.
In the US you can start with 25hp shot of meth/water system going up and probably over 300HP shot of meth/water system.
That's what I meant by treat it like a NOS shot system both are much the same just different in the way it's installed.
Some US diesel guys use both NOS and meth/water systems.
you missed the point.zagan wrote:US guys running low boost? people doing the disel dyno runs are all over 50 PSI and some are up to 90+PSI of boost with compund systems.tweak'e wrote:USA guys tend to run big motors that use little boost at cruise so there is not a lot of point running it at cruise, hence they usually use it when you want high power, just like a nos system.

US tend to have big powefull motors. while they may run big boost, at cruise they are use very low boost so basicly there is no hot air to cool. the systems are often triggered by boost, so the big motors won't trigger it untill they put foot down to overtake or go up a hill.
so in effect, as you say, its like a shot of Nos. its not really the design of the system. they run just about the same systems and same settings as the small motors (expect jet size of course). its just the style of use.
we typically use smaller engines which even at cruise are on boost.
its not comparing big engine to small its just the smaller ones simply use boost more. if you running boost you can use WI.
especially in euro where they have a lot of small diesels, they run on WI almost constantly without problems.
eg a usa v6 turbo diesel will only need to make a few pounds of boost at cruise where as my 4cyl is sitting at 10-12lb to do the same speed in a similar vechile. a lot will start injecting water/meth say at 5lb so the v8 won't be useing any water/meth but the 4cyl will be.
