Just been put onto a 81 MQ with the 33 diesel and 4 speed
Only issues are the diesel pump seems to have a leak (see pic) I suspect this is just the hose and can be easily replaced???
Second issue is there is fuel leaking from the rear...it's not from the tank, seems to be coming from higher, I think it's a fuel return line??? any thoughts?
The car drives well....288k on the clock....it's a good price, within my meager budget.....any other things I should be aware of (rust I already know about)
OKay although it might not be the exact same as mine, i had a leak in the exact same spot..
That hose is prolly 25 odd years old and the clamp has sunken into the rubber and cant grab at it any more.. Go buy yourself half a metre of fuel hose and a decent S/Steel jubilee clip and your done, quite possible the fuel tank leak is a similar thing..
the rear leak i would say is just hose one up front i would say defianantly replacejust like shark said pretty old hoses

The front leak could also be from someone playing with the priming pump - if you undo it to manual pump the system, they tend to leak. They do this, don't worry about it. But if it is the hose, then yes, change it!
Rear leak can be from careless filling, as the excess runs down the inside of the panel and drips off the mudflap (or rear spring), or a leaky fuel cap (not uncommon) so when you zoom around a corner with a full tank, it sloshes and leaks out as described. At worst can be the breather hose or filler neck has a small hole (my MK had this problem!). Replace offending hose or pull out the filler neck and get it welded.
If they are its biggest issues, life should be good. Oil leaks and burning are usually more of a worry or dirty coolant indicating leaks where you can't easily fix them!
id bet on the primer pump for the first leak, altho as shark said, it could be an old hose. for peace of mind its not much trouble changin that hose, and not expensive either.
rear leak is likely to be just the filler hose. again, easy enuf fix
