diff goes ting rattle ting

Post by hillbilliywheelchair »

Coming home from a fishing this morning the rear diff in my 75 started making this funny rattling noise that disappears when I lift my hand off
does anyone have a clue what the problem might be.

edit; I mean back my foot of sorry as I use hand controls to drive.
thanks jono

My hilux did this when the diff wasn't set up right, and also when there were teeth missing on the crownwheel

Might be as simlpe as a cracked uni joint, mine 80 was doing a similar noise, it was a metal tinging noise that dissapeared when i lifted my foot.

I just recently had the same noise in my troopy and thought it was just a buggered uni and it turned out to be a stuffed pinion bearing which wasnt a big job to fix
