Buying new tyres what should i get? so many oppinions?

i have silverstone extremes as my only tyres and love them they work
very well in the sloppy stuff, the only drama that i have had is i was
nearly washed off a concrete causeway a few weeks ago. that water wasn't deep
or fast in fact a falcon wagon drove through it after me.
31x10.5x15 on 15x8 rims, when i were them out i will probably get another set.

the issue was slippery concrete and not much rubber actually touching
the road if i didn't have a lockright in the back it probably wouldn't have been an issue.

I had a mate with a set of Krawlers on a coily, handled like a nightmare on tar, I was following him to a 4wd park and he passed over a bridge and the car bounced and was on the other side of the road in an instant, prolly a lot of other issues as well, but the tyres are not supposed to be used for this I guess. Too wide a tyre to grip anything with any ground pressure, my LJ80 with 205 hankook muds was pi$$ing all over it, till it did a backflip trying to climb something a little steep

You're right though - they are not designed to be a mud tyre.
My point about fitment remains true though.

i have run BFs,Hankook,Khumo,Goodyear and Maxxis all just a basic "allrounder" muddy i say on my hiluxes and zuks.With the bighorns if you chose to run them mate they are pretty cheap and good value for money i have found them to be great in rock,granit and reasonable wearing onroad allthough as said before they do tend to chew up a bit.Go treps maybe?or alot of people here are loving Mickey MTZs.

You're right though - they are not designed to be a mud tyre.
My point about fitment remains true though.
I would tend to believe that if there had been other tyres on the car it would not have been half as bad, something like a muddie.
Your entitled to your opinion on fitment, if thats what you would say then so be it!

I run 9/34 16 swampers currently and have a set of Q78's ready to go on as soon as I've sorted the suspension/guards to suit.

Dano, Greg runs 35 13.5 Krawlers and his car was 100% built to run them. It drives straight and handles well on road on them, on 8" rims, unbalanced. They are round and a high quality tyre, but they really are a summer tyre IMHO, which is what I'll be using my Q78's for.
In winter, even a 10.5" wide tyre is a handicap IMHO - no ground pressure/wrong shape footprint.

the maxxis bighorns would be a great all round tyre I use them on all my work utes they are good in the mud and pretty good on road . But if it is an off road only car and you want an extreame tyre get simex, silverstone,swampers (my new rubber 34x 9.5 ltb swampers) they are all great but really blow on the road.
85 high roof 1.3, 6.5 tc, air lockers,ruf and 34 swampers. yep its an ugly pos.
my zook is pretty mild to some of the stuff on here but so far that is an effort to keep it legal. Now i realise that any tyres over 15mm are illegal and none are more illegal than others but with only a 2" lift i just want to go with 235/75's for now and go bigger later. After ringing around i was looking at the Federal Cougaria's M/T. The best in town i could get was $170 fitted and ballanced a corner. is this a pretty good price? how will these tyres go on sand and real sloppy stuff?
I've been running Couragia MT's in 235x75R15 for just over a year now.
On road they are a little noisy, but who's Zook isn't noisy anyway.
Since buying them, I've done about 8500 kms, mostly road, with frequent 4WD use too. Wear is barely noticeable.
In mud, they are awesome, I don't really drive rock so can't comment there, and have only been on the beach a couple of times and they were fine.
On 15x7 rims they sit flush with the outside of the flares, so you shouldn't really get too much trouble from the law.
I think I paid about $140 per tyre in Brisbane.
If you don't want to go any bigger, then these are the most aggressive tyres available. And cheap too!
When I upgrade to a larger size, I'll be looking at these tyres again
