Rust Proofing

Post by TSN08 »

G'Day all, I need some advice on rust protection. I've got my new BT 50 and will be doing some beach work with it however, there seems to be a lot electronic rust proofing gizmos out there. I remember reading about it in one of the mags but I can't remember which one they recommended and that mag seems to has mysteriously disappeared (I think the wife might have something to do with that). Any suggestions will be appreciated. Also, if I put on an electronic system should I still get the bottom sprayed?

I have several vehicles that work in mine sites in QLD. I have only ever fitted electronic rust prevention to one of them, and the rest are Endrusted. I can't remember the name of the system but it was fitted by a dealer as part of a 'protection pack'. I have since removed the electronic (and the rust) and Endrusted this vehicle as well. IMHO spray it first and electronic second if needed.
Cheers, Adam

i had a ML triton prior to my patrol, i had the 8 coupler ERPS on it. there is a 10 year garantee on all new vehicles if you get a free yearly check... i found no problems with it. cost about $770 from ARB. Just have to do the general maintaining and make sure you look after bare metal scratches etc...

most good auto paint shops should be able to supply it. (everyone has a different name for it)
its a pariffin based product with anti rusting additives suspened in it.
the reason its so good its 100% waterproof , flows into all the little crevices and cracks and when it gets warm/hot it moves and flows a little and reseals. cleanup is easy all though it will drip out of everywhere for a few hours after application (particularly inside doors and quarters) wipe with prepsol/wax grease reamover or kero will work and it doesn't stink for a week.

before applying inside doors and quarters open doors and tape over drainholes in the bottom of doors and quarters (it causes it to pool in the bottom and seep into the seams etc.
place news paper under doors and quarters on ground (its going to run out of drains when unblocked) make sure windows are wound up unless you like rust proofed glass ;) .
after 15 minutes remove tape and let it drain out leave doors open for a few hours ,cleanup any mess and (important) make sure all drain holes are unblocked.
cheers andrew
