Upgrades for my new 60

Post by muttis3LV6 »

Hi all
Well after 3 weeks of searching i finally found a truck i like and am now the proud owner of a 1982 diesel (no turbo) 60 (and a 82 starion, and 3 zooks which average out at about an 88 and a 03 Roadwarrier). Now as i have had it 22 hours i guess its time to start modding :)

The truck has a nice set of extractors but a pee shooter exhaust, i like my neighbors so don't want to go stupid loud, whats the biggest size pipe i can go with out rocks been thrown through my window (yes i do live near Logan)?

The old owner had set it up for towing with v heavy loads so she has 22 (7) leaves in the front and about 100 (8) leaves in the back. How many can i take out and what ones should i leave?

Thanks
Cut down Sierra cab on extended LWB chasie running, Hilux front and Bundy back, with a 4AGZE should be finished about umm soon. A 60 Series work truck and some go fast toys too.

My HJ61 (turbo) 1988 has been set up for heavy duty towing and from memory 3 additional leafs were put in the back to bring the count up (also from memory) to 8 and 2 in the front to bring the count up to 7. You may find that different years/models have different types of springs and numbers of leafs. Also if you take them out the sag maybe noticeable.

Also the previous owner may have got and engineers report to upgrade and you may not be able to take them out legally without another engineers report. Which will cost.

with a set of extractors I had a 2 1/2" system with 1 muffler it worked a treat. With the springs on the rear. Mine had 7 leaves. Now being a ute I took out 2 leaves and it is very soft, can't put much on the tray with out crushing to the bump stops. I took the 3rd and 5th leaves out. If you got the system were the spring pack has steel cap (don't know what else to call it) with rubber linning around it at the U-bolts. What you take out will have to be replaced with some sort of spacer to keep the spring pack the same thickness. hope that makes some sort of sence

Spent yesterday tidying her up, painted the rusty chromes mat black and a few other bits too. Took her out for a big hill run so much fun 3 gear changes where in the race car i would have done about 100 :)
