Removing Engine/trans GQ

Post by Clarkie »

Can the engine/trans (TD42) be lifted out as a complete unit inc transfer?

I was thinking Remove Rad/fan/crossmember/gear lever etc and lift out as complete unit.

If its a real bitch I can split the trans/engine

I'd be splitting the engine and box, the gearboxes are so heavy it would be hard to get the balance to get it out. We just pulled my mates engine and box out and we didn't even bother trying to get them out as one.
Good luck

yeah, pull the box off it, the transfer and g/box is heavy enough to deal with plus its way to long to easily pull out of the engine bay

When I was stripping all the parts out of my old SWB GQ I pulled the box and motor out as one unit. Mind you the grill and rad were removed prior.
I wasn't worried about denting the engine bay / trans tunnel at the time as the shell was stuffed.
Yes, it is heavy and awkward to remove.

just pulled out a 2.8 with gearbox and transfer as 1, WHAT A C$NT !!!!

wont be doing that again, swear jar sent me broke.

but we only had 1 trolley jack so taking gearbox off by itself would also have been a job..
