80 series 4.5 turbo Q

Post by phantomxr8 »

Gday
Im currently looking at buying a 80 series that has been turboed, but am worried about the fuel usage (I am coming from a V8 though) and would like to know if a gas set up can be put on a 4.5 petrol that has a turbo?
and if so will this effect the motor in any way. this will also be my first 4x4
any advice is welcomed.

Cheers Ben.

1fz's dont like gas. The valves stretch & cause rough running. Then when you adjust them you cant but shims thin enough so the valves need replacing. You can get them ground but thats not realy advisable when there at that stage. You can get better valves put in but that costs a couple of grand. Adjusting the valve clearance every 20000 km helps but just prolongs the problem

Have you experienced this problem or relaying what you heard from some one else? I've got one that has been on gas since new, done over 270,000kms and head has been off only once due to an oil leak no valve problems and service a heap more and only follow manufacturers service recommendations with no problems different than those not on gas.
There are turbo gas setups using injected as well as blow through out there, check with the turbo suppliers.
