Patrol 2" body lift, cant get 4 low?

Post by MONGREL »

Hi all,

New to the patrol world, just bought a SWB GQ which is fitted with 2" body lift, when i can get the leaver to go past 4 high down to 4 low (dosen't seem to want go past 4 high for some reason, lack of use maybe?) feels like the gear lever is hitting on the floor.
Is it a common problem?
Noticed the lever has a coulpe of bends in it, if i extend the straight section will it fix the problem?

Thanks for any advice, Tim.

the transfer leaver is hitting the floor of the truck.
common problem if you dont remedy it after a body lift.

bending the lever helps as does trimming the bracket/floor.

Whats even funnier is somebody obviously did the body lift and never needed low range... Poser..

Sounds like you bought a great base car (rarely wheeled hard)!

Just trim the floor, or bend the lever.

I unbolted the whole lever and bent it on a big press.

I cut and welded mine, never had a problem ,after body lifting on the GQ. I tried to bend it but was not able to, got the shi#s with it and toke to it will the grinder,( I love my grinder, don't think the neighbors do but ) I had to cut the GU sticks too when fitting the 4.2, from 2.8, as they would not line up ether , cheers Phill

im not so sure with the swb, but i know with a lwb the easiest, and by far simplest fix for this problem, is to move the shifter boot. in a lwb the shifter boot bunches up and stops the shifter from holding into 4L, try it and it might save you and hour or so fucking around

Thanks guy's,

Yeah i know stupid not to have tested it  always have done in the past, coversions done on the car are reasonably well done, havin 2 4 yr olds with you at the time kinda takes half your attention.

Checked it out, looks like the last bend at the top of the shifter, the one that bends back towaed the floor is hitting.

Im a boiler maker by trade so think i can trust my weling skills, extending its the way to go i think.

Did ring snake racing late last night to see if they sell shifters because of this, told me it shouldn't be a problem.

eeeh i never check for 4wd operation in a patrol before i buy it either

because its very very rare that there will EVER be a problem with the transfercase in a patrol :)
