Post by jonnyjtop »

hey guys its me once again iv come too far with my jtop to just throw it away now...last sunday i got stuck in a muddy puddle and now engine is makin more funny noises...apart from the smoke it was alrerady blowing and all the oil leaks it had ....now the engine is making a whirring sound and if i hold it at about 3000rpm i can defintlely hear the bottom end bearings grinding...sounds kinda like a deisel now.....still runs ok but i dont know if i can trust it....i changed the oil after the mud bath and the plugs as it was running on 5 cylenders but no water got into the oil just needed to dry everything up....anyway its the 6G72 SOHC 12v v6 engine is it better to just replace the engine or am i better off doing the rebuild (but who knows what i will find once its open)....im up for any suggestions

Replace with what? My opinion is the full rebuild gives you an almost new engine but you have to concider the cost. I wouldn't bother to replace the engine with a used 6G72 because most of them are old and you have the risk to face the same problems soon. BUT!... there is another option

a V8 5.2L engine from a Grand Cherokee (or something like that...   )

i was even thinking of going the twin turbo setup as i already have the heads turbos and manifolds.......but yeah just kinda want it as a run around/weekend worrior, so standard would probably be best maybe with a tiny bit of head work ect ect because once i start i wont stop iv already got a backyard full of projects..

unfortunatly there is no inexpensive way, even if u did chose to grab a cheap commy V6, u still need custom made bell housings etc. handy with tools? grab a recon engine from HM GEM motors

I guess it depends how long you're planning on keeping it? Obviously for a bit if you've reco'd the box. I guess if you do reco the engine, at least you're safe in the knowledge that it's not going to go pop again if you stay out of puddles!

For what it's worth I don't think there's a kit to put a Commodore V6 into the 3.0L V6 Pajs, only the Astrons and the 2.5 diesels.

Dont forget to overhaul the head. No point doing the bottom end if the top end is shagged too!

just thought better to have piece of mind than one from the wreckers as you never can know the history of the engine
