Hi guys i have a swb patrol and have been looking around at lift kits and there is many out there and i was wondering what is really needed to be purchased do a 3 inch lift and have it drive normal and also is there any advantage to a 3 inch coil and 4 inch shock any direction in this matter would be great

i had a 2" spring lift on mine and i had to lower the gearbox to get rid of vibration but that was it. i also put a 40mm body lift on it as i read that you dont need any real modifications if you keep it under 40mm. the only issue was the low range lever, i just cut the floor as well as removing the bottom shroud on the radiator and stretch the vibration coil on the brake line.
nissan 98 gu 5" lift 37 creepys, 80%reduction gears, front locker and a gen3 and no money.
There's no point lowering the gearbox crossmember as you might as well not lift the car, unless you just want a poser rig. You only need to adjust the pinion angle to address driveshaft vibrations not lower the gearbox. There's plenty of threads on it so it will pay to search.
To do 3 inch on a shorty you need, springs, shocks, panhards, lower rear control arms, castor correction, brake lines, sway bar extensions/disconnects (if you want it to drive 'normal'), and drag link. Search is your friend. Spend a bit of time going through old posts to learn from everyone else's mistakes and you won't have to do poor mods like bodylifts and lowering gearboxes.

You're saying you don't benefit from a 3" lift if you have to lower your gearbox by 10mm?
Yes there are other ways around it, but I have a shorty GU with a 3" lift, NO replacement panhards, and run drop boxes (which lower the gearbox ) so there must be a lot of "posers" out there with drop boxes
So are you suggesting the best way to lift a 4wd 3 inches is to leave the standard panhards in and drop the gearbox crossmember? Yes you can do a half arsed job and leave standard panhards and draglink in but he asked what he needed to do to have it drive like normal and that means doing things properly. Offset diffs and your steering wheel pointing to the left when driving in a straight line is not exactly driving like normal is it? Dropping your gearbox crossmember is also a cheap and nasty fix and offers a nice anchor to get hung up on things as it is further back from drop boxes and reduces your ramp-over angle. As I suggested, if you do not care about ramp-over angle because you don't want to go offroad and just want it to look big, ie a poser rig, then just go ahead and lower the crossmember.
Now if you are finished being all defensive about the way you chose to modify your car we can all get on with our lives as there is far more important things to do with our time than argue over petty sh!t with people you don't even know on the internet.

Like I said, there are different ways around it, so if people don't have the money to do drag links etc, it will still drive fine until you can afford the extra mods, but to call people "posers" because they choose to use gearbox spacers is a little over the top don't you think?

Nah havent noticed it rub on anything yet, the gaurds have been cut to the body line & trimed on the edges, but hes running wide wheels & tyres 37'' x 14.50 on 15x10 rims, no adjustable arms just the gearbox spacer!! & havent had a drama yet..
