I have started an install to upgrade my lights.
I have basically built it as per the first diagram in the link below, but i am having a very hard time getting the lights to work properly.
http://www.traxide.com.au/HL_info.html
Firstly, i have a toyota hilux.
If i wire up S1, B and S2 as per the drawing the only way i can get the relay to switch properly (ie low beam on = power to L2, high on power to L1) is if i connect S to an earth as per the dwg here http://www.traxide.com.au/Relay_Info.html
When connected to the original light socket "common" wire it wont switch properly. What is the common wire on the existing light system? An earth? Does it link to the other headlight?
But wait, theres more. If i connect one light up as per above it works a treat. As soon as I connect the second light i can only get low beam...
Is this a positive/neg switching problem (even though the diag says it works for both)?
Any help is appreciated, its driving me nuts and at this rate is going to ruin my week because all i will be doing is trying to fix it.
Cheers
Dane

Help with light upgrade
Moderator: -Scott-
I'm onto my third glass, so I'm not going to think about this too much. I have recollections about some vehicles (LandCruisers?) having a slightly different setup for the high beam indication light in the dash, relying on one of the low beam filaments to provide the ground.
If the Hilux does similar this could be your problem. Check the operation of the dash indicator with and without the second light connected.

Hi danos, have you followed the diagram exactly, including the same size wire because everybody who has carried out the upgrade have had such a noticeable increase in headlight brightness that although they had considered putting in higher wattage bulbs before the upgrade, most get such an improvement they don’t bother upgrading the bulbs.
