May Be Selling Soft Top...

Post by goforitifyoudare »

I have a brand new Cream colored vinyl top for a 1992 Feroza (and i guess any other models that it fits).
It is complete with all brackets and plastics to install instead of the fibreglass rear.
I am thinking of selling it, but have no idea what it would be worth as it came with my car when i bought it.

Anybody got any ideas what I should ask for it??

Cheers - Simon

i was told by the guy i bought the car from that it was about $1100 to have made. im gonna check with some of the makers around Hobart and see what it would cost.
That may give me an idea of its worth.

then I could SELL it to you!!!! ;)

i thought of that but i have never liked soft top cars at all, and i dont really have any good dry space at home to store it, where it wont get damp and rot or damaged.
i would rather get rid of it to a good home. cos I really cant see myself going to the trouble to remove the fibreglass top to put on a softtop that i dont like..

I'm interested in one, but probably not for the price you'd want Simon! There was one for sale here in the Trading Post a while back for around $300- I didn't go have a look to see what it was like though.

Any idea on how hard it is to fit? I take it that it only covers the rear section?

to be honest, Ive not looked at it really.
it comes with a large foldable framework that attaches on the rear section, as well as some plastic covers for where the fibreglass rear attaches, so you arent left with open holes in the top of the bodywork.

seems like they are going for around $500 secondhand, so i guess that close to what I would want for it.

i personally want a soft top.... so that if i ever take off my hard top, i can store the softtop on hand so if i get hit with a surprise storm.... i'll have it on hand to keep me dry.... but we'll jus have to see how things go.. i may jus take the windows out of my hardtop and see about getting some plastic pieces made to fit over the windows when i need to cover up cuz of rain.... since i now got a roof cage...

While we are on the subject of the soft/hard tops. Has anyone taken their hard fiberglass back off? I have heard that the more times you take it off the easier it becomes for leaks to get in....just curious

I took mine off late last year. I don't think it had been off for a while as some of the rubbers had stuck to the body making it difficult to lift off. Just be careful of the rubber seals as you remove/ refit it and there's no reason why it should leak.

I used to take my top off regularly and never had problem with leakage !!

All I remember is that when I put it back on....I still had to slam the doors to close tham due to the really good seals and pressure build up !!

I got qouted the $550 for the frame work and canvas from front to back. Still had to get the clips etc so I gues if it's in good nick with the lot $500 should be reasonable. I would imagine the clips and rubber seal to be in excess of $150.

I have taken my hard top off and aquired a slight leak in the centre of the rear window... (after getting caught in the rain 1.5 hours away from home heh heh.... got some strange looks from people... gotta love steam cleaners and removeable carpets...) reinstalled the rear window and leak all gone... only thing you need to be carefull of is the chrome strip which runs along the top of the rear window... you can bend it out of shape.

I have my hard top off here and there. It did leak once or twice in the same spot ubove the passenger. The last time it came off and went back on i was more careful, and last week I hit torrential rain but no leaks, and the car was een parked for some of it so it must just be how I put it back on.

My soft top canvas is brand new, only been on the car once, for fitting.
framework is also in excellent order and the plastic covers etc look spot on.
Considering I am in Tasmania, so postage my be a little dearer, i would be looking at about $400 for the lot.buyer pays postage.
If anyone is interested, i can find out an exact postage price foryou.

never had a problem with hard tops leaking except for when i went through a specific car wash due to the fact that it used a 3,000 psi pressure washer..... never going through it again. seals are good but the only leak i've deveolped now is through one of the nuts that hides under the side window.... seems it started happening after i tore it apart to help with installing the hard top... testing, etc etc. so its prolly jus a gasket issue.... any ideas?
