The winch on my Landcruiser (Warn XD 9000lb) Has been on the car since new, which is now about 10 years. It has probably been used about 15 - 20 times.
It has never been removed, or serviced. But i do oil the cable every now and then. It still works fine.
I'd like to know what i can do to keep it in good condition, maintenance wise. Is there oil to change, points to grease, anything else to check??
Thanks
Mike

go to ARB with your winch serial number, and order in two new gaskets and the two nylon drum support bushes- all up under $35 worth of bits.
Ask them for the exploded diagram too.
I simply pulled mine apart, pulled the gearbox down, cleared it out of old grease, repacked with new marine grade bearing grease, replaced the bushings and seals, and opened up the motor and cleaned it out of any corrosion, then sprayed the crap out of the whole inside of the motor with lanolin spray.

2005 HDJ100 Manual, ARB bar, XD9000 winch, ARB rooftop tent + awning, Drawers, Engel, 2" OME lift, 285/75R16 KM2's, iCom, HID XGT's.
A good idea also to make sure the brushes move nice and freely, tape them up and spray the motor with anti-fungal red oxide varnish.
Make sure the motor drain is free, if not die grind it a little bigger, can't hurt. Make sure for that matter the drain hole is pointing down in your application. Genuine steel winch bars in GUs, for instance, have the winch mounted upside down and therefore do not have a drain pointing down, unless the fitter was competent enough to rectify the problem (not likely in my experience...)
I don't use grease between the ring gear and the end housing of the gearbox - it makes it too hard to free spool the winch out. I use inox in that part, works a treat.
