removing MQ front diff centre

have any of u guys pulled out a MQ front diff centre, cuz ive herd that dana style cast cases, sometimes have to be spread/stretched open, to remove the centre.

Have uz had any trouble?

never had any trouble just pull it out and make sure you put the shims back in the right side

more than likely it'll fall out as soon as you undo the last bolt !! :D ..... now the pinion gear.... man that puppy's tight !!!

Easy enough to do, they are a little different from normal diffs ( i.e. the front cover then unbolt it the centre from in side ), rather than taking the whole centre and pinion out.
Though ive only done it once and was shown by an expert :armsup:

When I replaced the diff oil in the front, I was hesistant, but curious about pulling the cover off as well. In the end I left it there because I was worried about wrecking the seal. It looked rubbery and sticky. Is my hesitation misplaced? Do you need another seal to put it back together?

The seal will only get damaged if you use a mac tool to remove it, the pc tool wont affect the seal. :lol:

Seriously, if you are careful, the rubber seal can be reused, but you can just clean the surfaces and apply some silicone sealant as an added measure - there are quite a few different grades, but in a pinch, plain old acid cure silicone will do the job just fine.

The original seals are fairly sturdy and can be reused.
Gently remove the front cover so you dont break the seal,
the seal should stick to either the cover or the diff housing.... most likely the cover!.... but it may need prying from the other surface... use a scarper to do this.

once the seal is free from both the cover and diff clean it with petrol etc and place in the sun to dry ( 15 mins is enuff )

refit the seal using silicone <<<< the black gasket forming one !!
add bolts & oil !!

I have only ever used FORM A GASKET. clean both surfaces spotless and apply
