Hi guys,
I have the V5MT1 gear box, which is a nice and reliable gear box produced by the truck division of Mitsubishi. With that gear box they have fixed a lot of the old problems they had with the first generation.
However, the 4th gear has a 1 to 1 ratio, and the 5th has only 0,83 to 1. The consequence is a low rev drop when going to 5th, and a high rev when cruising at relatively low speed on the highway (105 km/h @ 3000rpm), therefore quite high consumption (fuel costs are crazy in Europe - one liter of diesel cost a little more than one Euro which is approx 2 Oz.$)
I am willing to find a 5th gear replacement set with a ratio of 0,7xy to 1, so I can rev down a little bit at highway cruising.
I once found an Australian company offering exactly these "taller" 5th gear sets, but I closed the browser without saving their link, and I cannot find it anymore. Does anyone know about it? Any hint would be highly appreciated.
I am not willing to go for bigger tires or higher diff gears, as I am very happy with 1,2,3,4 gears, and I am using it a lot in off-road conditions.
Actually I will go for bigger tires, but in conjunction with lower diff gears in order to keep the same traction force.
