l thought thats the only way to wire them up.blurredvision wrote:When i hooked mine up, I ran the +ve and the -ve back all the way to the battery. This way if there is any noise, the capacitance of the battery will absorb it. So far no noise at all.
Will try the jaycar fix as l have put 2 capicitors on the alternator which hasn't done a thing.
Get some braided outer sheath and place over the 300-400mm of high tension leads from the ballast to the bulb, and earth/ground one end. This will stop 99% of noise.

...continued.
Unfortunately I dont have any pics that Ive done of proper setups.
The below pics are rough, done in an ad break whilst watching the mighty boosh.
Pics are !rough!, but should give enough of a clue to help get started. The sheath stuff can be bought at various electrical wholesalers. Ive got a funny feeling that Jaycar may just happen to sell it on rolls, but am unsure. Farnell, RS Components, Rexel and TLE should definately sell the stuff.
Failing that, can buy 240 or 415 volt sheilded cable, strip it for the outer sheath, and then use it. The stuff in the pics will indeed cover the two connectors once all done up. Pushing the sheath at both of its end, will cause it to expand in diameter due to its build property. Pulling both ends will cause it the stretch and cause the diameter of the sheath to decrease... go small, whatever the correct wording is.
Anyhoo, use this stuff and cover the entire length of the high tension/high voltage lead from the ballast to as close to the bulb as possible. Earth one end. Should eliminate a lot of the noise, as well as protect the cable from rubbing and also a bit of UV light protection.
