Roll bender question
Has anyone seen / used this bender:
https://www.machineryhouse.com.au/Produ ... kCode=S682
advertised for $1950+ at the moment.
I'm thinking of buying one as I want to build an atom replica straight after the buggy.
Would be sweet to roll dash bars, wheel arches etc.
Would prob need a 44.5 die as well.
cheers bru

Nice bit of gear comes with plenty of dies too for the price it sounds good ive used a similar but alot larger unit which had a hydro ram on the center wheel we used it to roll angle and large sq tube they work a treat but can still deform the walls of sq tube

I think you will find they come from the same factory....just a different color
1 bid will get it I recon, he has them up for auction all the time. GST is included as well.
Recon add the shipping and you will still be hundreds of dollars ahead.
cheers

well done! looks to be the same.
Wonder if it can do greater then 2mm in 38mm?
was hoping to roll 2.1 and 2.4 4130.
Might ring hare and forbes and ask the question.

I think the main thing that will affect the ability of the bender is the material itself.
You will need to look up some minimum wall thickness charts, as usually up to a point the thicker the wall thickness the better the bend will turn out.
anyway good luck with it

I rang them today and they seamed to think it would be ok for what we do but i'm not convinced I would like to know how they perform before i part with my cash.bru21 wrote:well done! looks to be the same.

Does anyone have one of these machines out there?

we can't all go first.
Ladies....
Wish there was a copy of a baleigh industrial or something.
Its funny when you want a new tool you design it into the build you are doing!
I got a quote to out scorce the work - $60 set up and about $70 per hour. Biggest problem is its not next to the buggy, so deciding on a radius would be hard.
edit: this one looks good

Didnt you already use one of these to bend your front nerf bars ?? ..professor wrote:I rang them today and they seamed to think it would be ok for what we do but i'm not convinced I would like to know how they perform before i part with my cash.bru21 wrote:well done! looks to be the same.

Anyway I have similar at work , got it from power machinery from memory (cant think of the brand at the moment and I couldnt find it on there site when I just checked)...we currently use it for rolling large handrails for excavators ....it only came with the die set we currently require which is 25nb medium wall pipe ... it also has a digital readout to you know the point figure of the top die ...but it all depends on seam placement with the pipe to get a consistent radius with different pieces of pipe .....

I have access to one but I want my own. There is heaps of uses for a ring roller I was looking at getting a manual one but that idea had passedA1 wrote:Didnt you already use one of these to bend your front nerf bars ?? ..professor wrote:I rang them today and they seamed to think it would be ok for what we do but i'm not convinced I would like to know how they perform before i part with my cash.bru21 wrote:well done! looks to be the same.

I agree. First time I went there I was excited by the gear but after a while I relized I would be happier with an old bridgeport than a new hafco mill etc.
But can't face spending more than 2k on a roll bender.
There must be one going somewhere with the state of the economy.
eye out people!

yeah I agree.......
I ended up buying an "as new" Bridgeport Interact mk2 CNC mill for 7k and it is sooooooooo far ahead of anything on the floor at Hare and Forbes.
I rather wait for good quality stuff to come up than buy Chinese crappy stuff.
for the same price it may be older, but the build quality is really upper class.

I spoke to hare and forbes.
the roller in question is too small for our purposes. Apparently rated for 1.6 and 2mm in smaller sizes. Will NOT do thicker walls - they have tested it.
other option is a rr40 for $3025 - only pipe dies though. additional pipe sizes are $800 for set of 3.

Ok I have decided to fabricate one up.
You cannot get tube dies easily and they are $800+
A machine worth having is $5k+Chinese $9k for one you would want
I'll draw / get the machining quoted tomorrow.
I want to use 60mm shaft after talking to a few dealers, as well as ideally drive 3 rolls. I have a spare VSD that was bought in error at work and a few motor lying around.
So specs will be:
Laser cut front back plates 12mm plate, laser cut sides, welded.
3 x 60mm shafts keyed at both ends, overkill for now but I want to roll 63mm for the atom project
3x large sprockets keyed to match shaft
drilled at both ends and threaded to 12mm to hold dies / sprocket in place, machined step at other side.
3x 38mm (tube size) mild (free machining) dies to start off with (cut deeper than half.) Will look at having 38 and 44 side by side (same die).
1x small sprocket for drive, 1 x chain
1x10t bottle jack to lower centre die
4xrod ends for roller supports, 2x side rollers
2kw AC motor with VSD, forward / reverse switch.

There is a bloke in orange that made a heap of rollers high quality im still trying to track him down again they were selling for around $2500 with dies.bru21 wrote:Ok I have decided to fabricate one up.

Im Keen to see what you come up with.
Chad
So far
bearings $40 each x 6
rod ends $22 each x 4
Dies getting quoted
shafts are drawn getting quoted
sprockets, taper locks, chain getting quoted
still need more details to get laser cutting quoted
decided on 2 drive rollers for simplicity, 1 idle.
Should be big enough to roll 76mm.
very similar in design to pirate one - bigger shafts, thinner plate.
I'll quote them up and post a kit price.
cheers bru

Got the dies quoted at $255 each+
Shafts $125 ea+
still waiting for the sprockets / taper lock / chain.
Might use a bonfig 100:1 box and directy drive one of the lower shafts with a chain to the other one.
probably cost 1k but will be much better to use and heaps more powerful.
cheers bru
