Which Diff Housing

I am about to put a rover motor, auto and Transfer in my Lux and as such need to find a right input diff housing to suit. Most cruiser housings are right sided, but which ones will take a hilux diff centre and use the standar axles.

I think a Bunderra diff will do the job and take the hilux centre. Any other options would be appreciated.

i dont under stand what your trying to do, maybee somone else will pick it up

The rover transfer is front - right output, rear - right output. As the Hilux Rear Diff housing is Centred, I need to replace it with something that has the diff centre on the right. And I dont want to mess around with ratios etc so If I can use my hilux diff centres Ill be a happy boy

from the advice I have today from a 4x4 wrecker, the only diff that will do what I want is a bundera. Any cruiser diff would suit, but not with Hilux diff centre and no mods

Have you got a one peice drive shaft,if so it might be ok
And if your going to use a bundera rear housing your going to need the axles aswell.

Yep got one piece tailshaft but will probably have to vary as the motor and box will probably be different length to Standard Hilux anyway.

Will also use the bunderra axles but most cruiser axles should work shouldnt they being 30 spline!!

but its all in pieces and im not sure what it has and does not have....

bundera is prolly the best option, there is others, but lots of $$ and custom work. (like sams, but that is big $$) compared to jamming a hilux diff into it!!

um cruisers are full floaters so they wont work in a semi floating axle housing. unless you convert it.

Thanks for that. Wasn't sure if it would work. Pardon my ignorance, but why would a floating / semifloating axle make a difference to what diff centre being used.

Isn't that what unis are for? As long as the flanges are parallel, I can't see the problem? Is there something i'm missing? Don't forget your horsecollar crossmember as well.

I had thought about that as well Dave but just assumed the angle would be too great. Assuming you mean just take the tailshaft from the right sided transfer to the centre diff

If you look at my buggy it has a centred output transfer case and a crusier rear diff, so its on a strange angle.


Ive got a full floater 80 series rear housing at home. $650 complete.. (There is no handbrake)

Correct me if im wrong but i think you need cruiser diff as the Bunderas run hilux running gear (so pumpkin will be centred)
I would be going for a full floater and just changing ratios to suit
You could pick up a 40,45,47,70,73,75 series housing cheap or go 2 inches wider with a 60 series or run Bjs 80 series diff nice and wide
If you have to by one diff I personally would change the front to Cruiser at the same time

The Bundera runs a hilux motor, and gearbox, a landcruiser transfer case and hilux diffs and axles... BUT the diffs are offset, like in a landcruiser!
