Post by 4RUNNER_01 »

hey i need some help on what id have to do to replace a standard 2.4L diesel in an 84 model 4 runner with a 2.8L diesel. :?:
Mainly concerned with engine mounts and gearbox/bellhousing is it all the same or what would i need to do.
Also my 2.4L had a ARB turbo kit on it would that bolt on to a stock 2.8L or does it have different manifolds ect

Will bolt up fine, same block, mounts, etc.

Take your time doing it, replace things that need it as you go and all should be sweet.

the engine in a 84 is a mk1 and the 3L u want to put in is a mk2 every thing should be the same exept i thing the turbo will be differant and you will need a turbo off a later model engine also you need to make sure that you have some where to fill up the radiator as some of the old engines have the cap on the engine and if the 3L dosent have a cap on the engine you will need to find some kind of connecter that will alow you to fill it up
hope this helps or even makes any sence at all

take off old exhaust manifold.
move one stud in the head to acomodate new manifold.
put on new turbo manifold.
put on turbo.
attach crossover pipes to turbo and intake manifold/aircleaner.
plumb in the oil lines to the alternator oil lines(or sump or anywhere else you decide might work)
drive it.

if it feels it needs more fuel(prob will), then turn it up a bit.
if you really want, get it tuned profesionaly

Are the sumps interchangeable? might be looking at the same swap.
