Comp car out of the 60 ??
At this stage i can not ride motorbikes for fun because of work reasons, so i am looking at another sport for a while and I am after some advice on my thoughts to make a comp car out of my 60 ute i have. Currently it is sprung over with 2 inch body lift and 37's. I would like to attempt a few comps more like a winch challenge. I thought about coil rear and spring under front with shakle reversal and cut guards to ensure a bit of extra clearence for tyres. The reason for the 60 is because i have it, its in really good condition. I also have a few 60 spares so it would be easier and possibly cheaper to use what i have. Im not worried about power at this stage. I have high mount winches i can mod and i can do the fabrication myself. After seeing a few vids on challenge type events i am worried that this style of vehicle and suspension may not be quite suited but i dont expect to win let alone be in the top twenty. I just want to have fun. OR should build it to use it for more Tuff Truck, Willowglen style events. Its not a daily driver, its not even regoed at the moment.
What is the average tyre size used in winch challenge events.

If your not worried about top ten finishes just get in there and fun.
Have a look at the Tamworth farm truck, and they do really well.
At the end of the comps they're all the same anyway TRASHED, just some worse than others.

Got some cool stuff goin on on matt.The intercooler work is awsome I`ve been having a look from time to time. Back to the 60 suspension,doing our comps up here and they seem the same style as the likes of the vic winch there is an element of speed involved and the pros of leaf spring are are there.As long as you have a spring that works, (ie not some rock hard 4"lift made out of truck springs) and that you have bumpstops set up properly they work fine.I would find out what is the biggest tyre you are allowed to run and then set up a good suspension that works and cut the guards to suite.My only sugestion is that you try to keep it so that you have the most chances to drive it.Somone who knows his car generally goes further than somone whith a hybred freak they only drive sometimes .Hope this helps. 60 makes for a good base for a comp truck. Wheel base is perfect IMO. certainly better than a GQ. They're certainly more nimble.
Long fields CV's and axles would probably be the best investment...

Don't forget that the rear axel studs are like chalk. You can upgrade the rear axels too with chromo gear and fit larger axel studs at the same time. Here is the templet I made from a previously broken axle. This way I only need to drill the axles flange, rather than the hubs and axles flanges as a pair.
The last 2 axles since the upgrade have clean sheared with no damage to the studs or dowel pins. Which makes it a real easy repair. It's also a good weak spot in the drive line, cheap and easy to replace even in the field at comp. Better than doing a gear box or diff.
