I think just looking at the local Jeep market is a SMALL part...IMHO if you could get some gears together the US market would be a sweet target - especially when you consider the xrate in our advantage & also some of the trade consessions you can get

I agree, the market is too small, the few people who want this sort of stuff and are serious about buying it, will just buy it from the States anyway.
If there was an Aussie version of an Atlas or something that would suit many different makes that *might* be worth looking into.
Yeah but this place is bloody quiet for Jeeps......Heck go somewhere like JeepsUnimited where they have 30,000 jeep only members.....
Sam as I said I think there is a market, abet a bit small here - BUT IMHO there deefinately IS a market is you can produce & sell em o the yanks - esp whilst the x rate is in our favour....
Remember they sell something like 80,000 TJ's alon in the US/year!!

Finf out what it would cost for you guys to order from Alaska. Contact me if you have any questions. I currently work at a place that could get or may have the gears/lockers & replacment axles you guys need. I have done a few XJ builds and dozens of TJ long&short arm lifts. Im not too shure the D-300 4:1 kit is that strong. One of the guys that came from here (Alaska) to run the OBC HAD A FAILURE IN HIS T-case that cost him a few days of down time in the race.AussieCJ7 wrote:On my list

I have a 2000 TJ, 36" Krawler tyers, F & R Lockers. I have been trying to get my hands on an Atlas II transfercase at a reasonable price but havn't been able to find one. As a temporary measure I hve put 4.88 gears in the diffs. THis has given me about a 30% reduction in the gearing (compared to stock). On road my jeep hammers (can keep up with a late model falcon to a 100kms/hr). Off road, again it has about a 30% reduction in low range. THis gives me a great low range, only slightly higher than an Atlas II. I am still running the standard D30 in the front, but with the low gears and lockers, when it breaks, I will switch to D60's front and rear.

Mate, sounds like a nice jeep. You should head over to www.ausjeepoffroad.com/forum and look at the forum there. Thats where most of the aussie Jeepers tend to be. Sounds like a real nice rig you have.
No sorry I dont have one for sale I was just curious as to what you were looking for or willing to spend (I bought mine pretty cheaply through Rustys in the States).
I know of only 6 Atlases in Australia -- there are probably more -- so to get one second hand here would be pretty rare. That said I know of two people (one here, and one in the US) who got rid of ther 4.3 Atlases in favour of the 3.0 when that was released a couple years ago. Just a matter of being in the right place at the right time and knowing people who have them in their rigs.

Rockkrawler; I have the 4.3 and it's in a 97 Wrangler. Can't remember the exact cost, it was about 3 years ago, but I think I paid 1900us for it.

With the dollar the way it is now, you should snap it up, its a bargain!

Unless you have a done a belly up the NVG241OR should be a direct bolt up to replace a 231 in a TJ. See http://www.jbconversions.com/pages/products/nvg241OR/index.html for an install write up.
