airbox on my GQ

Post by Not-e-Nuf »

Recently when changing my air filter, i noticed that there was mud on my filter. Luckily it hadn't gone in my engine through the carby. I was Surprised as i have a safari snorkel and it is fully sealed. then i noticed that my airbox just sits on top of carby. Nothing securing it to carby to make it waterproof. My air box is a round one, not your typical square one. I'm not sure if it was changed when it was converted to LPG or not. All my mates have EFI so there air box is different. does any one else have this problem?? If so how do i fix it, as i don't want to have my engine seize.

i too have this problem, and have bought one of these

still havent fitted it yet, but has the bottom plate sicaflexed in and a bead of sicaflex on top of the mixer to form a seal. There is a rubber automotive seal on the top which seals to the bottom plate.

I assume this is similar to your set up

those pictures dont really look too inpressive.
i got a qoute from a local metal shop and he qouted me $500 to make one

so i got a airbox out of a LN167 hilux and cut it up. doesnt look the best as i only had a mig but im pretty sure it does the job quite good.

so far it has cost me nothing. so i have made a $500 profit. :D

If i wanted to let dust into my engine, it would be cheaper to just stop using air filters. From all accounts of testing, would be just as effective as well.

Hes talking about the housing here knackers not the filter, i've had one made the same, they flow very good, you then can use a paper filter out of a BA XR8, doesn't have to be k&n filter.
