Does anyone know if there are any diesel conversions, for Sierra tray back? As I would like more torque for around the farm.
gemini diesels arent too bad or you could go a vw diesel search for diesels on here there have been a few done i was going to put a gemini one into my lwb and supercharge it but plans changed and now my zook is up for sale ( http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/ftopic168 ... highlight= )

Silver fox, diesel is a terrible option for a sierra IMHO.
Gemini is the only readily available motor, and I've seen one of these in a sierra, and it was quite goo, but ongoing problems with the motors which are now very old eventually meant the owner went to a 1.3.
The turbo 1.6 volkswagen engines are very hard to find in Australia, and I don't even think they are a good fit - the exhaust is on the opposite side so it's on the same side as the steering shaft etc - they just look all wrong to me. These also need an adapter to the 1.3 gearbox.
When you add the weight of the diesel, the limited powerband, requiring tall gears to make it usable ( you'd need stock 1.3 transfer gears and WT diff ratios to give one any sort of road speed) the added torque of the diesel seems like a small advantage.
How is you car geared now? Id be throwing so transfer case gears in it to gear it down- you'll end up with the same torque at the wheels as you would with a diesel without all the hassle.
I have approximately no torque at idle with my 660cc motor, but with my diff and transfer and diff gearing it's never an issue - I can idle up very steep hills no problem.

Unless you can afford one of the new generation small capacity diesels everyone is making these days i cant see it being a good swap in a zook with weight and gearing issues. Fitting one of those motors to a sierra to me is way too much coin to spend on a very cheap car. Id throw in a 1.6 fuel injected motor and get some gearing.

The whole point of a Sierra is that they are small light 4wds with revvy engines. What you are doing is basically putting a Sierra body on a Hilux

The 2CT and auto always looked on paper like the best option. I can see it's not an ideal fit but unlike the gemini, at least it's got boost and an 4 speed auto to help it work.

over improves flex and has heaps of low down grunt but will still get up and go for freeway use

It might be many things once it's finished, but the balance won't be majorly improved.
I've owned three hiluxes. They didn't really "heaps of grunt" down low and certainly didn't "get up and go" on the freeway.
Sure, your sierra will be lighter than a hilux, but that's all. It's probably less aerodynamic that a hilux.
Go for your life and all, but it's unlikely to be a better car to drive than a properly geared petrol engined sierra.

one diesel conversion did leave my workshop, though i just finished the job, not start it. it was a mazda diesel, the same as in the vans and asia-kia rocsta's. it used short mazda g/box mated to the zook t/case. it was a good fit and did look relatively factory. a few things to note.....
A- the weight of this set up actualy came up very well, a lot less than thought.
B- it went very very well, wether it be from standstill, or up to 100 k's an hour.
C- the vehicle was also fitted with 4 wheel discs and power steer, and stopped and handled very well.
i'm not a big fan of a deisel in a sierra, but this project proved it could be done, and done well, just the right combo is needed. this vehicle was also engineered and passed all tests. it opened my eyes as far as a deisel set up goes, and shows it CAN be done, and weight CAN be kept down. plenty of thought needs to go into a project like this and i believe more things need to be considered over a petrol conversion. but saying that, if a hilux g/box, transfer and diffs were to be used, i'd rather just stick with a lux!

Thanks for all the replies, the reason I'm after a diesel, is this zook spends 100% of its time in paddocks moving stock ect, and the zook is not registed, another reason is there is a lot of dry grass and a petrol exhausts can causes grass fires [in my experience]. I have other 4wd utes but the zook is the best for tight stuff around trees and gullies. Please keep the suggestions coming.
I had a samurai with a 2ct in it mated to a t50 toyota manual gearbox and the sammy t/case . As the t50 is set up for rwd running it through the sammy t/case in high reduced the gearing somewhat . It had fantastic acceleration but topped out at about 120kph , the engine would still pull away at 120 but was loud and I never had a rev counter on it so never pushed it . Was a tidy but tight fit , pic's on here somewhere of the install . You noticed the extra weight up front but it was a run around and with free diesel I had to have it . Since had a gen 2 vitara with the mazda diesel ( factory fitted ) and now have the grand vit with the peugot 2.0 diesel , I like it

We didn't get any of those engines new in Australia, and they're not even common as imports.
I think if the motor was the right price it would be an interesting idea, but over here it's all going to be a struggle.
