Cutting a 80 into a xtra cab

Im after a few build up pics if anyone has some.. i have a old skool panel beater prepared to do mine but has neve done one b4 and would like some pics so he can see wats involved..

so has anyone got sum of the rear part of the cab mainly so i can show him some details!

I know how tempting it is to chop it and the 80 does look cool when done properly. But having had the opportunity to cut mine I decided against it and got the whole body repaired and resprayed and It looks so damn good now.

I've got a say a clean full body 80s remains an excellent 4WD for hard core off road and general touring. The wagon really is the best of both worlds.

Unless you've rolled it of course and then your options are limited...

Keep us posted with it anyway. I alway love watching others take to their rigs with a grinder...

Yer i like the full body, but would liek a ute.. and i hate having to worry about panel damage.. i like the fact u can slide the tray again trees / banks etc... cant do that in a wagon...........

have a look at offroad80's, 80ute has a good thread on his chop. One of the neatest, best looking chops Ive seen on an 80

Yeah I know how you feel, the chop is inevitable at some stage, just got to bring yourself to drive something else when the boss wants to go touring, there is a few threads around, will be interesting to see how you do your chop..

Really good cut job can be found on MudRhino - I like the tray setup and the though in to teh way to do it - heaps of pics and how to!

Very very few are done in a way that looks good.
Best way to do it is use the back section off an extra cab hilux and mold it to fit. Doing it this way you get the correct angles and rounded corners. Everytime I see a cut done and the quick easy option of a flat panel down the back welded on I just laugh to myself about how crap it looks. None of the pics in this thread look any good. Out of the links posted I can only see the mud rhino one. If that is your 80 I don't mean to offend you, but fark that is ugly.

HArd to get it looking right below and rear of the doors when cut for a tray.

The silver single cab above had a ute version [called the shortbus] before that one.

Flat back walls are the only way to go (like mine). All the one's that angle the top half of the cab forward look shit IMO. I had some tube bent up for mine to get the rounded shape instead of the sharp right angle when you butt it straight up.

Agree with you about the angle when they just bring the whole rear section forward. The only way to do it and have it all look correct is by using the back off an extra cab hilux. The angles are correct, the curves are correct, the size of the rear window is correct to still be in proption with the rest of the rig.

Nope - just soemone from Mudrhino Guts.

There is a red V8 80 down here that was done by Slammed Creations - really properly done chop chop. Half the battle is teh tray - if it follows the lines it's killer. Otherwise sloppy.

Agree 100%.
The dual cab one is what I would call ok, the bar work on it really kills it. But bar work is a very personal thing and everybody has different views on what looks good. As for the cut from THAT angle it looks ok.
