im looking at upgrading the standard hitachi pos alt on my TD4.2
what aftermarket ones are close to a direct bolt on?
im running 3 batts, a twin motor hi-mount, fridge, driving llights and stereo and the stock one doesnt seem to be keeping up too well

I reckon Hitachi are good, you may just need higher output, what's yours about 90 to 100 amp?
Yours is a later model so it has no integral vacuum pump so that opens your options right up.
I'd just pull yours off and take it into Deerings or the like and get them to match up a higher output one.
don't disregard Hitachi though, they seal them up really well in comparrison to some and i just pulled one out of my GU ute last year that finally died after 350,000kms of dust mud and water, bloody brilliant i reckon

is there such a thing as too high output? If i'm changing, i'd want to go a big as possible like 350amp or so.
That way she'd never die even with everything running... like winching a steep climb at night with all lights a-blaze and the fridge in the back!
