-----

Have had trepadors for about 18 months now they seem to be wearing well i am expecting to see another couple years out of them they seem to be a softer tyre i am not sure how they will wear on the heavier trucks.

ON ROAD
Fantastic they are the quietest tyre i have had on my sierra, they have fantastic handling characteristics and i do not have any issues in the wet even under brakes.

WEAR
As mentioned above they are quite a soft tyre, i think they suit the smaller 4x4s if you are doing alot of onroad i think they may wear pretty quick on something like a patrol. Mine are probly at 85 - 90 % after 30,000 k or so the siping has worn off but has not effected performance.

OFFROAD
They seem to dig a bit in sand but you expect that, they are very good in clay and on rocks, deep mud they do quite well but i seem to run into issues due to the fact i only have 30's aka hung up on ruts, side biters have gotten me out of trouble but you need to get alot of pressure against them for them to grip. Did not effect them they where stil fantastic on wet rock, and their gravel road handling is amazing, my old tyres where very sketchy these are great (have has bridgestone h/t's bfg at's and maxxis 253's)

They seem to air down quite well but only being on a zook just like any tough as nails tyre you don't see much of an effect untill really low.

I have not had any real damage to these tyres, gravel does not effect them i have had a couple cuts from sharp rocks thats all.

Maxxis Trepador Competition

For my intended use (Vic) I've been running 37 bias Treps for over a year now. Road is not an issue, but they handle better than most radial muddies when on road. Off road, they eat every other tyre I've had (ET's, Swampers, BFG's etc.) The only exception may be that I use the hard compound which is not much chop on rock......so if it's rock you drive, best to get the sticky compound version. I won't be changing from the Treps anytime soon because it would be just going backwards.

My scale....out of 10

dry road..........8
wet road.......3
dirt.............8
rock..........4
ruts..........10
mud.........10
wet clay hills........10
off camber........8
damage resistance.......9

Better than the ET's in clay\mud. Big call but you seem to know what your on about have used these other tyres.

Only thing I can say about the big 37"+ comp spec treps is that I hope you have a lot of power to turn these things.

They are a massivly heavy tyre. Actually most maxxis tyres seem to be that way...

Hey Dan,

We decided to try a set of sticky 37's for Engel Rnd 1 on our carby peto Junker 85 kw heap of shit and (thanks to GQ HOON) won 5 stages over the weekend. :D I guess you just have to drive the car with a bit of intent. Anyway.......I now rate the sticky Treps as the best ever tyre for the worst terrain that you can dream up. They still react the same as the hard compound ones when pushed fast and steer great. I'll still use my street compound Treps as weekend tyres, but for any competition weekends the stickys will be bolted on.

Dave.

I have 31x10.5 on 15x7 rims as a second set of tyres for my 93 v6 triton. have probably done about 4000km on them in 12 months but am quite happy with the way they handle on and off road.
you can definately hear them on road but they are easily tolerable. Very quiet when they were brand new but after about 1000kms they did get noisier. they have the rumble as you come to a stop on bitumen. The tread gets the typical muddy howl when you take corners like a sports car
wet weather grip is good. mud is no problems. they are good in sticky clay even though the tread fills up with the stuff. dirt roads are good. i have been informed by vehicles behind me that the tyres flick up some big stones :!:
I have had a bit of chipping on the tread after one particularly sharp rocky track with 25psi in the tyres but nothing major. No sidewall cuts yet.
The diameter actually measures 30.5 inches.

i got a set of radial treps.. from mud emp..

they are superb on rocks.. quieter and more comfortable to drive on then my bfg muddys on road.. in mud there not all that crash hot they clog up in the thick clay very quick and dont clean in the mud you really need to spin them to clean..

Just bought some 40" Sticky Treps from Ryano  (This man is da shit when it comes to tyres)

Have not wheeled on them as yet, but they are a farkin massive bit of meat. The tread is super soft and the size of the side lugs is insane.

Another one of Greg's plenty sticky Treps in this vid & good variance in terrain & transitions although nothing fast just crawling.

I thought that his video was definitely worthy of posting in this thread. Its amazing how well these tyres hook up in the wet on some fairly jagged rock, too.

So true, they worked sweet for sam on that wet rock  . The short wheelbase definately seems to help on the butcrack thou. I now understand why shanes jeep drove it so easy many years ago.

Can't wait to get back from Enzed to go for a wheel on the treps!

That's one of the many beauties about Ormeau. All along that track there are climbs that favour one WB over another and its more evident in other areas.

But the fact that he climbed it so easily, and so far off the easiest line, in the wet is testament to capabilities of the Treps.

All hail the mighty Treps.
