really, really make sure you need them before you part out the hard earned. There's a reason why they often crop up 2nd hand.
PS "my car is too narrow" is another way of saying it's too tall.
PPS if you have funky alloys and are narrow track, disregard what I've said above and consider spacers. I'm not having a go at you, there just rarely a good idea.

I was at Tempe Tyres last weekend and watched as they installed 1" (front) and 1.5" (rear) spacers on a brand new XR6T ute. I was really suprised the mechanic would do it since they're illegal. try www.snakeraceing.com.au they have them in all diffrent sizes PS if you are any good with a welder get steel rims and cut the center out and weld in back in this is what i did and it looks alot more roadworthy than spacers, saves money to.
Far too many examples around of them working loose for my liking - advice on modifying steel wheels is far better.
Perhaps its a problem with alloy ones, as Matt at TT Drivelines didn't blink when I discussed steel rings to adapt stud patterns - and IMO he's an extrememly good guide to what's not going to work/last.
And you haven't overlooked the extra loading your placing on the wheel bearings....... ?

I agree on getting the rims offset before doing the spacers.
I don't like having that many nuts to possibly come loose, torqued correctly or not. I regularly work on cars with factory spacers and they have a completely different mount system.
The only spacers that spark my interest are the 5 to 6 stud adaptors.
But plenty of people run them with no issue and that's fine, more power to them, but not for me.

Buying spacers as a "cheap" option isn't exactly cheap.

i bought a set of 22"s (for my on road wheels) and he guy at the mitcham tyre factory said "if will drill a new stud pattern into them they will fit straight on" seems the kind gentlemen lied to get himself a sale and now wont take the wheels back because i "told them to modify them"
so yeah i got stooged and now i want my wheels to fit!!

I agree with the bigger offset, but both put exactly the same strain on the bearings.
If it breaks, excellent, time for an upgrade

So you've bought 22" rims to go on your Sierra. They weren't the right stud pattern so you got the Tyre factory to drill a new stud pattern in these wheels and now they still don't fit so you want to put wheel spacers on to fix the problem.
Is that right?
So what does the longer diffs thing mean and how will that make a difference if it is a wheel stud pattern problem?
I'd be taking the rims back if they have "modified" them by changing the stud pattern, or to everyone else ruining them.

However, you might well be stuck with another unsuitable product (a set of spacers that won't actually help the rims clear.
In any case, 22's on a sierra? It's going to drive like a turd. That's alot of money to burn to have a car that is less functional than it was stock, but that's just my 2C

hi steve here is the full story..
i bought some 22"s after the guy at the wheel shop said
"they will fit straight on if we re-drill the stud pattern and bore out the centre"
when i got the wheels home, they fit over the studs and the bore was big enough, though the wheels just fall short of the hub as they hit the leaf springs.
the car will just be used for driving very short distances with the 22"s on (ie. gettin to work which is within 15km and going down the shops)
i called the guy at the wheel shop and explained to him that he sold me wheels that dont fit my car, and that i only agreed to re-drilling them because he said they would fit after they were drilled.
he then said that it doesnt matter, i told them to go ahead with it, so i have to wear the costs and im stuck with the wheels!
the wheels have an offset of of 45 and are i think) 9.5" wide

Are the rims alone hitting or do you have tyres on them that are hitting ?
If you haven't fitted tyres yet you will have to add around about 1/2 inch for the tyre as well. What size spacers did you plan on getting you are going to need fairly big ones if you plan on turning any corners I would think.

thats wit tyres on, i was planning on gettin 1.5" spacers.. i only tried them on the back and measure the bore for the front..
im soo upset about the whole situation, now that its happened i just want the wheels to fit!!
every thing about it upsets me.. i've planned to use the governments $900 cash bonus thing to put towards suspension... will this help in any way? or should i put it towards somerthing else? (different rims isnt an option!!!) my stubborn-ness and determination has ruled that out (also that i guess im a bit of a fool for not just giving in!!)
